Small crack by my neck plate.

I noticed today that there is a little crack by one of the screws on the neck plate of my SX STL 50. I can't tell if it is just the finish or if it is the wood. Is this something I should be concerned about?

I think its too late to return it to Rondo at this point, and even if I could, I would rather try just fix it myself rather than ship it back, wait for another one, blah, blah, blah. And I've already changed the bridge saddles, scratching the bridge in the process. Is this something I can fix myself? If its just aesthetic I can live with it as it is, I just don't want my neck to snap off in the middle of a solo or something

I'd just forget about it and play. If you wanted to drop a little super glue or clear nail polish in the crack it may help as well.

Yeah I was thinking about putting some clear nail polish on there, just to kind seal it and maybe prevent it from cracking any further.

Kind of common to see that or surface cracks in the lower area of the neck pocket where the neck itself meets the curve (cut out of the body). Someone might have cranked the screws a little too much. Usually it's just the THICK paint job that cracks and not the neck pocket wood itself. You could take the neck off on your next string change and look the area over better.

Yikes! its not that bad.

I have a habit of tightening all the screws on guitars when I get them and every so often there after to make sure everything is tight. I might have overtightened it.

I put some clear nail polish on it for now. And when I get my Keystones, I'm going to take everything apart and have a good look at everything.

It's probably a paint crack. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yup. And that there is picture of old Grandpa Superhand holding the biggest screwdriver ever. The one I use on my SX is about half that size.

But seriously, thanks guys. I think I really just wanted to hear that it was no big deal. and it would be OK.

I got a couple nice thick coats of lacquer (nail polish) on there, looks horrible, but how often does anyone see that part of your guitar anyway?

I have played guitars with small cracks in them for years and don't even think twice about it !! LOL....

BTW, I emailed Kurt at Rondo music and he said that it is probably just a finish crack too.
