I picked up a Marshall Silver Jubilee 2550 Halfstack the other day on CL for $1300.
The amp was posted for $1600 cash. I called the guy up and right away he told me "I need the money in the bank by 5:00 tomorow, or else im just screwed!!"(he set himself up...) So i said ok let me talk to my dad....
My dad told me to make a offer of $1300.
I called him back and he very very hesitantly accepted it.

My dad went to pickup the amp the next day, and the guy called my dad back and said another guy offered him the full asking price. My dad texted me at school, and i was bummed. but when I got home my dad said i got the amp!

Long story short, the guy that offered full asking price of 1600 showed up with a check, and the guy with the amp said "i gotta have cash man, so the deal was off" He called my dad back and they met in petersburg and made the exchange for $1300.
Regardless of weather or not it was a great deal, im just blown away at the versitility. The amp flat out ROCKS, and its poroboly one of if not THE best sounding amp ive got! I plugged up and all of a sudden i started playing Skid Row, and it sounded so perfect!!! With the roll of my grandma's 1979 Les pauls rythm pup volume knob, i was playing the clean part in No One Like You by the Scorpions, and it just shimmered!!

---Give me a moment while i rehabilatate my fingers....---

The guy told me he was the original owner and he said it was 100% original INCLUDING THE TUBES:shock:. They work for now, but im sure it wont be long, so what tubes would you put in this type of amp?
AMAZING AMP!!!
Good deal?

Congrats on scoring what is considered by many to be one of the best sounding Marshalls ever made. I've been after one of those heads for years, haven't been able to find one as of yet.

This is the amp that Slash used on Appetite, and the exact model his sig. amp is basically a straight knockoff of.

It's a thing of freakin' beauty. As for the value, I'm gonna go ahead and say you did alright. These are getting so rare, they are creeping into the "if you want it, you gotta pay asking price when you're lucky enough to find one" territory. And it looks pretty mint to boot.

I am extremely jealous.

As for tubes, my favorite power tubes for Marshalls are Groove Tubes E34LS's. I like #7's, beefs up the cleans, and tightens up the distortion. Lots of folks here will poo-poo Groove Tubes, but I really like these tubes in Marshalls, they are all I'll put in mine anymore. The tonal difference between these and the JJ's I used to use is night and day. The E34LS's are punchier, tighter, and all around thicker and juicier sounding. I've been trying other tubes, but I have yet to find anything that compares to those.

Unless your pre-tubes are microphonic or are causing you other problems, I wouldn't mess with them. Although if you just want to experiment, thry throwing a nice 12AT7 in the V1 hole. With the GTE34LS's in the power section, it makes the clean channel really shine, and smooths the drive nicely. Some folks think it takes too much edge off, I disagree. At any rate, it's an easyily reversible fun experiment.

You are, without doubt, the best equipped 16-year-old I have EVER encountered. And damn lucky, too. Well scored, young man!

The "Silver Jubilee" didn't come out until the year AFTER AFD was recorded. Supposedly it was recorded with a modded 100W Marshall Super Tremolo (Model 1959T)

Thanks, Im not exactly worried on weather it was a steal or not.... with the sounds it produces, $1,000,000 would be a steal....
