Wozzer November 7th, 2009, 06:37 AM Hi guys,
Neck from ebay on the way.
Wanting to build tv jones Tele.
Now I've looked at Warmoth and the upside is that the bodies look of good quality and you can pretty much spec how you want it.
Comes ready painted if you desire.
Downsides!
Shipping from US and Duty.
I was thinking Shoreline gold but they don't do it.
Is Firemist close? (It looks grey-ish on site)??
Can't add decals under topcoat.
Does anyone know UK supplier of custom bodies (non-standard pup routes etc) of quality and value?
And a finisher!
Thanks
W

no experience of them, but they do what you seem to require
spannerman November 7th, 2009, 08:51 AM I had the same problem, as far as I know there's nowhere like warmoth in the UK (not that I can find anyway)
One piece of advice I do have for you though is to seriously consider making the body yourself. I got my router second hand off ebay for about £25 and it's more than adequate for guitar building. As long as your careful, it's not too difficult and it's very satisfying when you're done :)
Just a thought, but I recommend it.
PeterUK November 7th, 2009, 08:55 AM Loads of choices.
Two members of the TDPRI:
Craig from ReVintage: http://www.revintage.co.uk/
He's got a feature build with pictures on this site at the moment.
Steve Robinson, aka http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/
Mr is Mr. Nitrocellulose UK and does some great custom work
Martin Sims of Sims Custom Shop: http://www.simscustom.com/html/bodyshop.htm
I've had great service from all of these guys. I've got a set of Craig's templates, Steve has done quite a bit of work for me and I've had a custom painted pickguard from Martin.
I'd also recommend Charlie Chandlers: http://guitar-xperience.com/onlinestore/, tech to all the stars. Only bought spares and hardware from Charlie but is reputation is second to none.
Let me know if you need any more.
Keep it British!

Excellent company but John doesn't do individual bodies now. See his FAQs.
Q. 'can I buy a separate body/neck from you...?'
A. Due to my current workload I have discontinued the supply of separate bodies and necks to concentrate on complete guitar orders.

Togman November 8th, 2009, 03:20 PM Thanks Peter, I hadn't noticed that he was only doing complete Guitars these days.

John is a fine craftsman and makes great guitars. I played one recently and it was superb. It was light, fabulous neck and had amazing tone. It had a Strat pick up in the neck and it was great.
The relicing wasn't as good as my Clive Brown finished Broadie but it was a very good gigging guitar.
I was surprised to see that he's stopped taking specific orders as the associated hassle is too much.

maiga November 8th, 2009, 03:32 PM I'm sure someone with more knowledge will know (der! apologies for oxymoron) where they come from/whether they're any good, but these guys do necks/bodies- I've only bought electronic parts from them and that was a totally satisfactory experience!

The OP is looking for custom, non-standard routes.

Axesrus are well regarded in these parts. Tony and Jackie provide an excellent service but they offer (Chinese made?) necks and bodies with traditional features.
The Axesrus necks are supposed to be very good and I suspect their bodies are good quality too.
Great suggestion but it may not be what the OP is looking for.
