Anyone done it? Any Pros/Cons?

Any reason why I should not do it?

Most electric sets are very light for an acoustic, and the plain G string won't work well - poor intonation and odd tone.

Otherwise, nickel wound strings will work if they are gauged properly and use a wound G. They were once common on acoustics, but players tend to prefer the brass/bronze wraps by a long shot.

I know players who use nickel wounds on acoustic for use with magnetic soundhole pickups. It can sound quite nice that way for certain styles, such as blues with metal fingerpicks.

Sometimes the high e and the b are exactly the same. Ernie Ball for example uses the same plain strings for acoustic and electric.

I can't even imagine playing an acoustic with anything lighter than 12s.

I've tried it, and found the that the wound strings sound kind of funny. I like the sound of phosphor bronze strings for acoustic. Nickel is too bright for my taste.

I say try it, if you don't like it then don't try it again, if you do, then there ya go.

That's all Merle Travis ever used on his D-28 w/ the Bigsby neck.

What about acoustic strings on electrics?

Not so much... Pickups don't like the Bronze for Magnetic properties..although GHS does make a White Bronze set that will work on both.
