What's the final verdict on post-ScratchX work?

I find conflicting information on this, does anybody know for sure?

I have two guitars here, nitro, that I need to put more nitro on. Both have been treated with ScratchX before.

Sooo...

1) Does ScratchX have silicone in it according to latest assumptions?

2) if it does, what do I do to get rid of it?

It doesn't contain silicone. Unless they have reformulated it or something. I've looked at the original formula MSDS. It does not show silicone.

I just used ScratchX on a Bakelite pickguard that i lacquered.
After buffing it, I realized that I had broken through the lacquer on the edges, and it needed another coat.

All I did was wipe it down with naptha and shot it with another coat of Deft.
I had no problems what so-ever.

The Scratch X tube says "Do not use on unpainted vinyl or rubber surfaces".

I was doing a little testing with the product on a black vinyl pickguard. I applied plenty, and got it looking real glossy. Then I go out the Makita buffer and went to town with the wool bonnet. I got the pickguard too hot and created a sort of whitish film. If I decide to use the pickguard, I will have to sand the film off.

It was a test piece, so I'm not saying I won't be using this cool stuff.

I bought 2 tubes of the "New & Improved" recently, and both turned into a watery mess inside the tightly closed Tube....total separation of product...my older ones never did that in a period of years ?....I have since discovered Presta products...available at Auto Paint Suppliers...no more ScratchX for this Boy.....:wink:

I use 3M's FinessIt II for the final buff and have never had any problems.
In fact I believe ReRanch sells it for this purpose. It is usually also available in any auto parts store that has a decent selection of painting supplies.

I don't know about ScratchX
