Hello from England. The Tele is the greatest design ever and now I want to build one!

Hi Guys,

Been in love with the Tele since I bought my Crimson Burst American Std in 1989. It was due to be sold to Johnny Marr but I jumped in (back in the good old days of Rhythm House, Stockport. Long story). It was the best playing and sounding Tele in the 40 plus they had in.

I still have it and despite going through a long list of guitars (Ricky's,LP,Strats,Jnr's,ES etc) it's still the best.

So I've made the plunge and won (won? I'm paying!) a 1995 Rosewood US std neck off ebay (to get a similar profile to the beautiful 'burst).

I'll fit some USA std tuners but what shall I build?

I'm thinking either a P90 Tele jnr or a La Cabronita Especiale inspired Tele.

I'm leaning towards the La Cabronita as I have a Gibson lps with p90's but don't have a TV Jones pup guitar.

I can find my way around a guitar and can solder a little but don't want to get involved in routing or paint so Warmoth is my current thinking.

Any tips or advice would appreciated and a few specialist questions....

Any suggestions on wiring the TV jones and diagrams? I've heard of greasebuckets, oil caps etc....

Also, I'm thinking Swamp Ash? Yes or No?

If I go La Cabronita, I'm thinking gold but I'm struggling to get a real feel on the actual colours. On the Warmoth site, Gold top looks too gold, Firemist to grey, Shoreline they don't do and is that too grey also? You do see some large differences in colour tone on photos of various shorelines etc online.

Hey maybe I should be worried about building the thing first!

I'm a huge fan of the P90s but if you already have an LP with them I do also find it very hard to resist a really nice gold hardware guitar :P

If you're buying a ready-painted body then It's certainly not too early to be thinking about colours.

As for wiring and stuff, have a search through these boards, this is definitely the right place to be if you need to know anything.

Correctimundo ! Addictive is the word....and if you're married or in a relationship..be prepared for grief...like I get....only because I leave bodies...necks.....pickups...lacquer....filller... the list goes on...around the house during builds.Ours is a love- hate relationship.I love building tele's...she hates it !!!:smile:
