solo boost for peavey special 130

Hi all, I picked up a peavey special 130 and it's a really fun amp. Being that it's the only SS amp I own, I'm not quite sure what to do for a solo boost on the lead channel. It's got a great barking OD that is great for rythm work but what should I use for a solo boost? I've got an maxon od808 that I use with my tube amps but it just sounds like mid-rangey junk through the 130.

I've got a boss compressor/sustainer, do you think that might get me there? I haven't tried it yet but am looking for some pointers.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the help,

Matt Morrow

Welcome, I've got the same amp! Mine was built in 1980 and has a weber cali speaker in it.
Really I've tried alot of boosts, and the best Ive found for that amp is my DOD FX80b compressor or a maxon cp101. I sold the maxon when I picked up the DOD. Your boss compressor probably isnt of the transparent type,so its going to color your tone more, same with a dyna comp.
The DOD adds just a little sparkle and some roundness that is lacking in solid state amps. but I use it with the compression at 8 am,level set to boost a little, and attack almost off. It is scary how loud and clean the combination of that amp and compressor is.
Works for me!

Thanks Czech! I'm gonna keep trying until I find the right combo because I really like this amp a lot.

Take care,

by the way, if you look inside your amp you'll see that the lead channel is very similar to a tubescreamer, jrc4558 ic and symetrical silicone diodes!
