DblStop November 4th, 2009, 11:59 PM Just ordered one with the updated tone control on it can't wait!!!I've got the gear sickness pretty bad.Does anyone have the updated version of this pedal?I've been watchin' some you tube vids and it sounds great.I really like the idea of the tone control and the blend, which allows you to blend the origional signal back in.I just got one of Brian's delay pedals a while back and it's the BOMB!!!!I'll try and give a short review on the Ego Compressor after I get it and take it out on a few gigs.Props go out to Brian,he makes great pedals and they're built like little tanks.I'll report back soon. h20man November 5th, 2009, 04:17 PM I have the Ego Compressor without the tone control. I have owned the major boutique comps and this one is my favorite by far.
DblStop November 5th, 2009, 04:56 PM H20man thanks for the feedback,I just got a call this morning sayin' it was shipped out,I will hopefully have it by Saturday, can't wait i'm like a kid at christmas lol!!! Mark Moree aka DblStop
Kingpin November 5th, 2009, 06:00 PM I have the first version -- with a 3 position attack switch, and without the tone control. It's a great comp. Keeps your bottom-end intact, very warm and full-bodied compared to most comps (which tend to thin out your sound).
Echoplex November 5th, 2009, 07:09 PM I don't have the Wampler, but as soon as I get the dough I am getting me one of these:
C2dOLvH6Op4I may be wrong but when he adjust the compression knob you hear the volume drop out for a second. This tells me that's it's a bias knob aka The Orange Squeezer. I just built one with the bias knob on the outside that I'm giving to my bud dblstp. He's gonna be up to his ears in compressors
guit30 November 7th, 2009, 08:02 PM Greetings,
I have the Ego Compressor 2, small box, tone control switch, best compressor that I have ever used, would love to get it modded to the tone knob control version some day. One bit of advice, to switch on attack knob, the blend knob has to be turned all of the way to the right. Makes a world of difference. Very popular on The Gear Page too, got an e-mail from Brian, Brad Paisley is using the ego compressor 5 knob now
DblStop November 8th, 2009, 02:16 PM Here's my little review on the Ego Compressor after using it last nite for the first time on a live gig. From the very first note I played last night I was completely blown away by this pedal,i'm ready to toss my other compressors in the trash after playin' this little puppy!!I had just a few minutes to play with it before we started playin' our first set last nite.I set everything around noon on the Ego,except for the volume which I ran about 10' oclock. There's just something magical about this compressor and the way it made my Tele sound,it has what I call the WOW FACTOR!!!!And that's just what I said after our first set last nite.Ok now for the good stuff, this pedal does everything from transparent to full on squish and you still retain your tone, some compressors rob a LOT of the top end of your tone, not this pedal.Even on the neck pick up of my Tele on the slower ballads it still kept the top end in tact without getting muddy.I did fiddle around with the blend knob on a couple of tunes we did last nite, one of the tunes was Haggards Workin' Man Blues, which I bumped the blend knob up to about 1 o'clock and got that Vince Gill rubbery compression that I dig so much, man I was in Chicken Pickin' Heaven and a Big Old Smile came across my face,I was hooked like a big ole fish lol!!!!We also played a couple of rock tunes in which it excelled in too,I ran the blend back knob back to about 11'oclock or so and the compression was a little more open, which was cool for the rock tunes. So my friends this ends my compressor search,my hat goes off to Brian for makin' this little gem, this compressor lived up to my expectations and then some more.Mark Moree aka DblStop
guit30 November 8th, 2009, 05:28 PM Congrats,
Do you have the new 5 knob or a 4 knob?
Jim
wolfman63 November 8th, 2009, 10:57 PM Wow, an Ego compressor. I know several "big star" singers that could use some of that.... as well as a noise gate.
guit30 November 9th, 2009, 02:05 AM The Burgs is a great sounding orange squeezer, you can't run it on batteries though, only thing I do not like.

Jimdblstop has the 5 knob compressor.
Ormond November 9th, 2009, 03:19 AM I understand that Paisley has started using one. That is pretty heady stuff in that he has a relationship with Keeley.
guit30 November 9th, 2009, 06:11 PM Such is true, I heard that from Brian, while Brad is smiling with his hand on a Keeley on the back of Vintage Guitar mag. Do you have to use a pedal if you are a supporter of that pedal, can you use something else?

Honestly, I don't know much about the keeley/paisley relationship, I guess Chad (Weaver) would be the one to ask about that. I DO know that Brad has been using the Ego all the time while he didn't used to use a whole lot of compression before. I met with Chad last night in Nashville and dropped off another compressor for the CMA's and Good Morning America performances tomorrow (actually today I guess since it is 1am! :D ).
I love the keeley stuff too, so definitely no disrespect from me in that regard, I just don't know of any exclusive relationship, I just know that Brad is a big fan of pedals. :)
Hope that helps! :)

Echoplex November 10th, 2009, 02:43 AM I can't wait to check out Mark's(DblStop) Ego Comp this Sunday so I can compare it to my Keeley. This endeavor may make my wallet lighter
DblStop November 10th, 2009, 02:56 AM Brian I want to thankyou for ending my search for a compressor,my hats off to you and my wallet is a lot happier now lol!!!!! Mark Moree aka DblStop
Ormond November 10th, 2009, 03:22 AM I would like to have you post that comparison.
I had to do some recording tonite on a real Texas style thing. Could only get the tone I needed with a compressor...and the one I have is the Boss CS-3. Have the mod kit but am too inexperienced to put it in.
Had to throw out the tracks because with the sustain turned up high I get a lot of noise...it stops if I turn off the compressor, but I am not sure it is the compressor itself...it could be the Boss accentuating the sound from the amp. I don't know. Is the Boss CS3 noisy? Is the Ego quiet?
I do jingle work...they run on TV and radio. I cannot afford noise on my tracks. I have spent money on the Boss and the upgrade kit but I would take the loss if the Ego pedal is significantly better. Any opinions?
guit30 November 10th, 2009, 06:05 AM Paisley is an endorser of about 5 Keeley pedals, There was a huge pic of him on the back of Vintage guitar mag with his hand on a Keeley comp. He has been an endorser on and off for years
Jim
DblStop November 10th, 2009, 12:30 PM It's pretty quiet in my rig, and i'm running a fair amount of pedals on my board,so far so so good. Mark Moree aka DblStop
guit30 November 10th, 2009, 06:15 PM My ego compressor is super quiet, even at hi volumes.

That's true, there is an ad in several magazines. I can't really speak about where things stand between Brad and RK... I do know that Brad really likes the keeley TS as well. According the Chad, there isn't a whole lot of pedal dirt going on live... the amps are up SO loud that they provide plenty of dirt... I can verify with 100% accuracy though that tonight on the CMA's Brad is using the Ego comp and the analogecho. :)

My pleasure Mark, but thanks to YOU!! :)
Without customers and people buying my pedals there is no Wampler Pedals... just a guy building a pedal as a hobby. :)
