can a person tell from the out side lettering on a potentiometer if it's suitable for volume or tone use. Also where would I find a wiring diag. for a HSS configuration? Thanks

Volume and tone both typically use an audio taper pot. However, the lettering is stupid.

From: http://bandslink.com/wordpress/
USA:
A = logarithmic (also called ‘positive logarithmic’, ‘audio’, ‘log’ or ‘+ log’)
B = linear (’lin’)
C = negative logarithmic (also called ‘reverse log’, ‘rev log’, ‘reverse audio’, or ‘- log’)

Europe:
A = linear (lin)
B = logarithmic (also called ‘positive logarithmic’, ‘audio’, ‘log’ or ‘+ log’)
Y = negative logarithmic (also called ‘reverse log’, ‘rev log’, ‘reverse audio’ or ‘- log’)

.. so when in doubt - go to the horse's pdfs:
http://www.ctscorp.com/components/potentiometers.htm

HSS - try seymore duncan's site or fender's page - choose a model configured like you want and check it's wiring diagram pdf

http://www.fender.com/support/wiring_diagrams_parts_lists.php

if you want something out of the ordinary, post all the selections you want out of those three and maybe someone can point you in the right direction.

-I was going to say Sincimillian Gold, but it's about volume and tone pots instead.

So would you describe the experience as,

A- "Audio" (enhanced listening) :cool:
B- "Linear" (kinda snuck up on ya) :lol:
or
C- "Negative Logarithmic" (a worthless log on the couch) :shock:

WD250 is a 250k alpha brand pot... you'll need to register with alpha to see the specs / codes
