SX STL 50 owners, I know you're out there

Will these pots (http://guitarpartsresource.com/electrical_kitstele.htm) fit on the control plate of this guitar (http://www.rondomusic.com/product718.html)?

Or am I going to have to do some drilling and/or filing?

I've seen some tele control plates on ebay for 99 cents (plus shipping of course) so that could be another option I suppose.

SX and most all imports are based on the metric system. Any parts you get which are Made in the US or are based on the US measurement system will not be a direct retrofit into an SX (nor almost any other imported Asian guitar). My best guess is CTS pots are domestic measured and you'll have to drill out the control plate (rather easy since you have such a big pilot hole from the previous pot).

Yes, you'll have to ream the holes out. Not a big deal, but if you'd rather not do that, the kits that Stewmac sells use the good, audio taper Alpha pots. They are metric and will fit in the SX holes.

What's the easiest way to do it? I don't have a bench vise or anything like that. I do have a power drill, and a Dremel and I was thinking I could either just screw the plate on to the guitar and drill it like that with the guitar holding it in place, or just bore it out a little with the Dremel.

Any thoughts?

Both are handy to have around. The step drills don’t grab like a regular bit when you are enlarging an existing hole, and each step has a bevel so it leaves a clean edge.

Use a clamp to secure the plate to a larger piece of scrap wood which you can then safely hold in place with one hand and drill away.

I had to enlarge the holes for CTS pots when I modded my STL50. I just screwed the control plate to a piece of wood, spring clamped the wood to the workbench and drilled it out. Worked fine.

Yep. Easy easy to drill the hole out.

There isn't a single metric screw on my SX tele anymore.

Why can't we all just use metric and make the world just a little simpler. Maybe I'll write my congressman.
