What tools will I need to change the pickups in a MIM Standard Telecaster?

Yup, solder would be a good idea.

Check out Terry Downs soldering DVD. Sure helped me out.

The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

I would practice on something you don't give a crap about first. Like a cheap yard sale guitar or something like that. Get the technique down, its not that hard but it does take practice. Then try it on your guitar.

There are plenty of videos on youtube that can show you the basics.

You don't need a cheap guitar to practice soldering. A few pieces of wire will do.
