Full sized humbucker that sounds closest to Tele stock bridge pup?

Hi all!

I'm about to order one of these:

I'm a sucker for the sparkle finish, but don't need another guitar with a fat humbucker sound. What would be a good full size humbucker for the bridge to get a good twang? I was thinking about the Dimarzio EJ Custom bridge DP212. Anyone heard that pickup? Any other suggestions?

I got plenty of twang with a Duncan C5 in the bridge of my old Tele. It still sounded like a Tele and with the somewhat scooped mids give a nice sparkle and chime to clean sounds. A 59 sounds good as well but the C5 was nicer.

What about a humbucker-sized single coil? Pete Biltoft from www.vintagevibeguitars.com builds a HB-sized pickup constructed like a Fender-ish single-coil, with magnet polepieces (instead of pickup screws, like on a P90).
For a really low-priced option, look at the GFS Dream90 from www.guitarfetish.com

Wide Range Humbucker is the way to go!

Sounds like a big fat Tele single coil in the bridge position. Very Fender!

The originals sound great! And the modded ones are exceptional as well. Just don't waste your money on the Re-issue.

The cheap humbucker from a Squier 51 is really great and twangy.

The Joe Barden Two-Tone (size of a full humbucker) switches from a nice low-level (PAF-ish) humbucker sound to the standard Barden Strat-pickup sound (which is noiseless, a bonus). I've put those in a couple guitars and been very happy with them.

Why not get a Tele bridge pickup and a mounting ring that's humbucker sized but has an angled slot for mounting a Tele pickup? Google around for one, I don't recall offhand who makes one. But I've seen them on several guitars that normally have humbuckers but the player wanted a single coil pickup instead.

It is a great pickup.

But I'm beginning to see it sounds better in a small body basswood guitar like a Squier 51. I've got one in this agathis Squier Tele Special and I'm needing some help.

If that interests you because you want to get a classic Tele bridge single coil sound; my guess is that you're more likely to get a nasally quack instead. Check out what I posted in that first thread you linked to.
