Hi guys! I just put a pair of lil punchers in a guitar, but even if I wired everything correctly, I get hum when touching the pickup blades. Is it normal for rails type pickups? I don't have that issue with other humbuckers I use and I have search the forum for info on that without success.

thank you!

I used a set in a Thinline I built last year. I don't recall them having the problem you mention. Are you using any shielding? Are the connections (including the wire shielding) well grounded? I don't have any clues otherwise.

I have one in the bridge of my tele , it doesn't do that. Run a temporary wire from your control plate to your bridge then try it. If that stops it , I would go back and check the grounds.

Yes everything is grounded right.

The buzz appear only if I touch the blades while not touching the guitar. If I touch the guitar while touching the blades, nothing happen, no buzz, the guitar is even quieter (like it should). I'm "worried" because humbucker should have no hum at all in every situation. No?

A humbucker is designed the way that both coils pick up the hum but as they are reverse wound . . the hum of both coils add to a close to zero level.

The phenomen that you encounter is something different . . must be some grounding issue. I'll try to investingate on my GFSs.

I have a third Lil Puncher (not installed) that do the same thing when connected directly to the jack. Hot to green, black and silver to ground.

I found something interesting! If I ground the blades, the hum I get by touching them disappear totally. Could I really do it? Grounding the blades? Will it affect the sound of the guitar?

Sorry . . took me a little while . .

When i touch the blades of mine there's some noise too . . but i really don't mind because first i always touch the strings while playing, so no noise is heard if i should touch the blades while strumming.

If you can get it quiet with a ground wire, i see no reason not to do it. The blades should be sufficiently isolated from the coils.

I would check your output jack and make sure the ground and lead wire are in the right place. I had this problem and needed to switch the wires around in my output jack
