First and second (same):
1. vol only
2. vol + tone
3. vol + fixed dark
Third:
1. an attempt at direct (but vol pot can still change the resonant freq & load, more on that here (http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-tech/179367-more-esquire-wiring-help-please.html))
2. vol only
3. vol + tone
Fourth:
1. vol only
2. vol + tone
3. vol + tone + 3.3k across !!!! (I suspect this will sound very very dark, but I've not tried it)

Sound/tone wise, only you'll know. Unfortunately you're going to have to experiment with various cap/resistor values that pleases your ears.
Circuit wise, I like the first/second one. I like the cap values suggested by Arlo (see here (http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-tech/126348-arlo-west-cocked-wah-wiring-help.html)). Sounds great especially with distortion.
