Looking for recommendations on the best solos to cop. I'm personally thinking country and jazz but also interested in all styles. For example if there was one solo that youo think of as the definitive country solo. The solo that all country players should learn and study what would that song be?
Thanks

i'll speak from the jazz side.
i'll reccomend players to look into. these cats aren't to hard to cop from, but the harmonic and rhythmic content is essentially as master class.
guitar: grant green, jim hall (well, jim's single note stuff--the chordal passages are tough!)
sax: hank mobley, paul desmond, lester young, coleman hawkins, ben webster
trumpet: miles davis, chet baker, art farmer
piano players are a little trickier cuz you're hearning both hands, but hank jones is never bad to look at, and not too tough to transcribe.
with jazz, never limit yourself to guitar...hopefully someone will chime in on the country side.

Thinking jazzy country, my mind instantly went to Alan Jackson's "Pop A Top". Very cool solo!! One of my favorite jazzy Brad Paisley songs, "It Never Woulda Worked Out Anyway" would be a fun challenge! Not sure if they count as definitive, but they are full of some sweet licks.

Jazz wise... the Wes Montgomery solo on "West Coast Blues" is a great example as it features single notes, octaves, and block chords, but it's a tough one.
The "Seven Come Eleven" by Charlie Christian would be more approachable and definatley a classic Jazz Guitar Solo.

To summarize so far
Alan Jackson's - Pop A Top
Brad Paisley - It Never Woulda Worked Out Anyway
Charlie Christian - Seven Come Eleven
Wes Montgomery - West Coast Blues
Thanks!
Seven Come Eleven and West Coast Blues were both on my radar but the other two I hadn't considered. I will have to give them a listen. For rock I just figured out Bodhisattva by Steely Dan. Thats a great one. Denny Dias has more moves than a Vegas call girl!
