hi....i want to change a fender esquire harness so that the third position switch setting produces a tone that is about 1/3 or 1/2 as bassy as the normal muddy bass-like sound.....if i change the value of that 3.3 k resistor will this do something like i am talking about..?...thanks

Yes you can do that or install a mini pot and adjust it anyway you please.

Here is the schematic.

You can also use a push pull pot.

What you do is wire it all up and turn the mini pot to where you like the fixed bassy sound and duct tape it up and just put it in the control panel area.

You can also glue another pot upside down to the vol pot and do the same thing.

Or you could drill an extra hole in the control panel and mount the mini pot and use a small knob to adjust it there are lots of ways to skin this cat.

Probably the simplest way is just get a handfull of resistors and try them till you find the ones you like resistors are cheap.

I think Fender used 3.3k and 2.5k resistors in the Esquires.
