studio1087 October 29th, 2009, 12:27 AM I tried the new DRRI tonight with about 8 OD Pedals.
I loved it with the Maxon OD9 (like a TS9 but it's a Maxon.
I loved it with the BBE Green Screamer.
The Bad Monkey was pretty good.
All of the above had a nice edge. All of the above stayed cleaner when I played lightly and had great overdrive punch when I played loudly I could hear the sparkle and character of my guitar using any of the above.
I'm feeling like an old fart with "Tubescreamer Syndrome".
The Sparkle Drive sounded muddy - not a lot of Character.
The Boss OD-20 multi overdrive sounded really fuzzy.
The Dano Transparent OD was just OK.
The Dano Overdrive was very flat.
I feel like I'm pigeon-holing myself with the TS9 clones but they shined above everything else.
I got more sparkle from the Maxon OD-9 than I did from the VooDoo Labs Sparkle Drive.
i guess there is a reason why tons of guys play Tubescreamers.
cdc3jj October 29th, 2009, 03:58 AM Mine really, REALLY likes a blue one. Fulltone fulldrive. It solved my overdrive problems.
garytelecastor October 29th, 2009, 04:07 AM That is really weird.
I have a transparent and it rocks on my Fender amps.
CLAZ October 29th, 2009, 04:42 AM consider me a green overdrive addict as well
i might throw a clean boost for some fatter drive every now and then but likes my TS9/808 modded and 808 RI depending on the mood...
need to try the Maxon od808 heard its great too
tjalla October 29th, 2009, 05:45 AM Crack out the green paint and use whatever pedal you like

The guitar in this song is pretty good. Never noticed that before.

studio1087 October 29th, 2009, 11:52 AM I have the Green Screamer.....I love the BBE Green Screamer.
The Pine Green pedal looks cool. Is that a comp or an OD or both?
The Little Green Wonder looks interesting.
I'll have to troll off to youtube to see if I can hear them.
studio1087 October 29th, 2009, 11:56 AM Nice compressor......

Maggot October 29th, 2009, 12:41 PM It's probably because of the DRRI's scooped EQ - you need some extra mids to get a full bodied overdrive sound, and screamer clones are usually green. How do you like the Green Screamer by the way? My TS-7 is on its last legs.
studio1087 October 29th, 2009, 01:42 PM The BBE Green Screamer is one of my all time favorite OD's. It has a bit more egde and teeth than the TS9 and it doesn't have as much middle boost. It's a nice organic tube overdrive. Built like a tank. I love it.
This video is crappy. My T5 isn't tune very well....I should have done this over. It gives you an idea of how the BBE compares to a TS9.
A guy on the Taylor forum asked for this....

Budda October 30th, 2009, 05:47 PM If you clip the Bright Cap on a DRRI, it will be MUCH more pedal friendly.
Also, FD2 is a great choice, because it's basically a Tube Screamer, also.
Timmy works like a charm at fattening up a Black Face amp.
And a Blues Pro will yield the Tweed type tones.
Hope this helps!
xjazzy October 30th, 2009, 08:23 PM I tend to like my TS clone with my tweed. On the Deluxe reverb I love my gold pedal (SD Twin Tube).
Axis29 October 30th, 2009, 11:03 PM Waddya know... I've never cared for the greenies with my DRRI much...
But I love me some red:

The other funny thing is that the Transparent Overdrive sounds just like my DRRI overdrive... only I get there at not full volume. I tweaked the eq a tad, but not much, I use the Transparent Overdrive for solos and stuff as well as quieter practice at home.
Several of the TS type pedals I've tried have sounded muddy too me. Of the couple I've tried, I did like the Bad Monkey the best (probably cause I could get rid of the mid hump a tad! LOL)
11 Gauge October 30th, 2009, 11:14 PM If you clip the Bright Cap on a DRRI, it will be MUCH more pedal friendly.
+1
Another reason why the DR (and the RI in particular) tend to be so "pedal picky" is because of that single bright 12". Put in a speaker that's a little darker, and it's amazing all of the pedals that will suddenly sound good thru it, IMO.
imwjl October 30th, 2009, 11:37 PM I only have one overdrive, it's green, and it's great with my Deluxe and Princeton Reverb.
;)
