Hi All!

I've been lurking here for about 6 months, and recently joined. I got a lot of good info for my partscaster here, and just wanted to say thanks! The stuff I learned here saved me a lot of trouble, I'm sure, and I will post up on the build (assembly) later with pics.

Here's my near miss Telecaster story:
When I graduated from high school, in 1985, my dad brought me to the local music store to buy an electric guitar for me. There were no Strats there, I really wanted a Strat... but there was a Fender Bullet, with a Strat layout, and there was a Telecaster. My dad said he could buy the Bullet that day, or come back the following week with more $ for the Tele. Well, being 17 years old and impatient, and really wanting a Strat type guitar anyway, I went for the Bullet.
Over the years, and through many Strats, I would think about that Tele, and how I wish I had waited another week...cest la vie.
I sold the Bullet in 1995 or so, to finance my Strat habit.
After gigging through the '90s with Strats, I didn't play guitar much for about ten years :-/
In the last year, I have been playing again, and I am looking to start a band. I'm obsessed with country music now (like *real* country music, if you know what I mean) so, naturally, I need a Telecaster guitar, right? Well, as it turns out, what I really want is an Esquire.
What I didn't expect is how well the Esquire works for all of the blues, rock, and country stuff I play. And everything in between. I am amazed by the tonal variations available from one pickup, vol, and tone! I am also convinced that the lack of pull from a neck pickup makes a big difference in the way the guitar sings and sustains. The notes seem to *bloom*, if that makes any sense... The Strat just doesn't seem to have any character now. But you all know this already ;-)
Anyway, a big thanks to everyone here for all the info. I'm sure this forum helps a lot of people who never even come here to acknowledge it.
Cheers!

well Bud...you speak much truth...I am a big believer of the bridge only pickup...you will notice a lot of players with humbuckers in the neck for the very reason...less magnetic pull since the flux goes side ways instead of up and down. The threads on here are very helpful indeed.

Wow, you learn something new every day. I just may have to try one sometime, thanks!

the 3way switch on a tele is discreet meaning each of the 3 positions don't touch the others like a 5 way...it is a true 2 pole 3 throw switch...

so if you use a joe barden style PU with 4 conductor wires like the guitarfetish lilpuncher $30 and sounds amazing or the new neovin...the bridge PU can be wired single coil pos.1 / parallel pos. 2 / series pos. 3 ...how is that for variety?

I noticed the blade style PUs had no difference in tone single coil vs. parallel..
except parallel in no hum....so the coolest wire up is parallel pos.1/ series pos.2/ series with the tone hardwired to pos.3

now you have #1 twang no hum / #2 rock and blues / #3 fat jazz humbucker tone
