I have an orange 01' just like yours. Right now it has emg t pups in it, but I'm thinking about putting the originals back in. It's a great playing and sounding guitar. I like it every bit as much as my Nocaster.

Looks like Fender is going to release a limited number of the USA Thinlines this year in Olympic White (I think).

2001 Fender Telecaster Thinline (AV90 I think), Transparent orange finish on ash body, double tortoise binding, with matching orange headstock, rosewood board, medium jumbo frets. USA made, Possibly a one-off.

What is the official name for these guitars? I recently picked up a 2001 with the natural finish, tortoise shell binding and pick-guard, maple neck/FB.

I've been searching, but have not been able to find much about these guitars. Except for the natural color mine looks like the one's you guys have with all the appointments of a more modern American Standard Tele on a thinline.

Mine had been setting in a case for a long time and it took some time to get her cleaned up, especially the frets and FB, but now she's beautiful and one of the most awesome playing Tele's I've ever owned. I'm not sure I'm sold on the stock PU's though. Are you guys keeping yours stock or have you swapped them out? If so, what did you put in?

I'll take some pictures and post soon. BTW, mine also came in the old style Fender black plastic HSC that shaped like a guitar. Is this the stock case for these?

Not much discussion here. These must be more rare than I thought. Surprising, but I hope it stays that way. I've owned at least a dozen Tele's and this one set the bar.

The one thing I don't like are the PU's. I've been looking for some replacement recommendations, so if any of you have experimented I'd be interested to know what worked or didn't work for you.

Come on guys. These are some fantastic guitars. Why so little discussion.? Any of you try some different PU's?

Hi Guys

New to the forum. I bought a secondhand black Thinline around 2000 and wanted to find out a little more about it. I emailed Fender's Consumer Relations Department (consumerrelations@fender.com) with my serial number and got a really useful response back from Michael Roberts. Based on my serial number, my guitar was made 05/1998. It came with (and I still have) a black Tolex case with red brick lining. According to the details below, this option then changed to a standard black form fit case in 2000. My tele had had the pickups changed to Kinmans by the previous owner, so I can't comment on the original Fender pick-ups. The previous owner also upgraded the control knobs to some custom ones with a black insert on the top. The guitar has sat in the case for a while as it needs a little tlc to bring it back up to par (I am on the case). I paid £1000 (approx US$1600 at the time). I'll dig out some photos. Hope this helps.

Great info. Thanks. I installed a set of Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro's in mine and IMO they sound fantastic. $1600 is about the bottom end of the scale for what these sale for in the U.S. Although, with this economy it's tough to sale anything these days.

I rarely see these guitars for sale or mentioned, but it's become my all time favorite. I don't know if I found a special one or if these are consistently that good, but from what I've read, they are.

Still need to take some pictures and post.

I have several Telecaster guitars and have just come across one of these American 90s Thinline guitars that I'm thinking of buying. They look great. Still considering it but I like the reduced weight of these Thinlines (I have a Japanese 72 RI Thinline that is quite nice).

I have a 2000 standard American Tele that I love, although not too fond of the bridge pickup. I'm thinking of putting a Lollar pickup in the bridge position of t my standard Tele. That may suit some of you here who have asked about pickups.
