Hi guys. I'm getting ready to install Billms' basic kit and presence control in my cream board blues jr, and was thinking of an EH12ay7 in V1. Tube depot has a list of tube tests and I wondered if the standard test was usually adequate or if if one of the others is advised. Maybe the low noise/microphonics. I'm not recording, but on the worship team less hum is always nice. Thank you all for the tremendous information and encouragement that's offered here. God Bless.

Just standard. The low noise is for really sensitive phono stages. I mean, you can always get it if you want for the extra $4, I just think on most tubes it's an unnecessary markup of about 25%.

Thanks callaway, that's kind of what I suspected and what I'd hoped to hear. I'm pretty new to this and I'm learning so much just running through the threads. You guys rock!.. God Bless.

By the way, I ordered 3 of the new Tung-Sol "reissue" 12ax7's from Tube Depot and have no problem so far. They've taken more than 10 hours of pounding in the back of my custom 6L6-modified Princeton Reverb with 2x10" speakers... and it really punches the low end. I really like those new Tung-Sols and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them if you want some 12ax7's. Compared to Sovteks, they had a fatter punch with maybe a bit warmer high end, but were still just as focused and tight.

Also, I ordered a JAN 5751 from them (I really recommend these as a fatter, mellower replacement of a 12ax7) that was horribly microphonic. I sent it back (only $1.50 postage on me) and they sent me another right away.
