Please guide me into tinting maple necks!

hello

I own a custom fender strat with a maple v neck.

i love the sound on this tool, it's amazing

but i wish that the color on the neck was more... vintage yellow

Then, i read lots and lots of article on the fact that one can 'tint' maple necks

AND the fact that guitar reranch offers a nitrocelleous lacquer that does the job.

then i saw someone who managed to successfully 'tint' his/her neck

here is the picture

after

i reallly love what this person has done on the guitar neck, and i want to do the same thing...

but i don't exactly understand how the procedure actually happens

few questions

1. i think my guitar's neck has already been coated when i bought it. must i use some kind of steel wool to remove this coat and then apply the spray?

2. after spraying few times, do i 'clear coat' the sprayed neck?

i have honestly never done this kind of job in my life and i am kind of afraid to harm my guitar in any ways since i love this instrument.

so please please help this helpless newbie on the job!

thanks very much
