I have a cheap acoustic guitar that is my favorite. I bought this Oscar Schmidt OG2 on a whim day I decided to learn how to play in 96. It was $140 new and sounded better than anything under my limit of $250. Over the years I have bought and sold many guitars worth far more but none have really compared. I am sure there are many that “sound” better, but this thing has a mojo and a feel to it.
I am using a http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Seymour-Duncan-Woody-HC-HumCanceling-Soundhole-Pickup?sku=300957Seymour Duncan sound hole pickup. But the damn cable gets in the way and is too short for live play. It also requires a load of gain to be audible.
I would like a permanently affixed pickup that is inexpensive but doesn’t suck. But I don’t have a clue what to look for. Your suggestions are appreciated.

That's a tall order. What you're looking for will likely cost almost as much as your guitar because it will require a preamp.
Look up Fishman, LR Baggs, and DTar.

buy an endpin jack (http://www.amazon.com/Retro-Parts-RP391-Acoustic-Electric/dp/B000EEJ4YU), take out your endpin and install it there... piece of cake.. you keep your existing pickup, a little solder and new endpin and you are set.

I put a K & K Western passive pickup in an old Takamine of mine, and it sounds purty good plugged in. No preamp or anything, looks like an acoustic when unplugged. Mine was I think $140 installed.

I buy those fishman systems on ebay direct from hong kong for about $50 each. You can't beat that imo. Here's one:

Here's a more basic version that I have and it still has a tuner and is good quality for under $40 shipped.

I've bought two of these and they seem to be the real deal, not copies. My guess is some guys that work at the guitar factories over there are selling these. My jack on the last one had been installed before so maybe these are from blem guitars. I don't care, they work great and a super cheap. If you bought a system like this from a USA dealer it would be hundreds of dollars. There is a little mystery to the authenticity but they seem quality to me.

Thanks for the advice, and thanks for the links. Hard not to give the ebay Fishman a try except for the idea of cuting a hole in the body. I can solve half my problem with the jack, but that still leaves the ugly sould hole pickup. I am thinking about giving something like this a try. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290362238807&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
Is there a rule of thumb between Pezio or Transducer mikes sounding more natural?
