Hey just wondering, I picked up a Stereo Phonograph Console and pulled the amp from it. It has the following tubes: (2) 6BQ5's, (2) 6BA6's, (1) 6CA4, (1) 6BE6 and (1) 6AQ8 on the FM Tuner! Can this be modded / converted into a suitable guitar amp?

Ok! Now where is the best place to get some info on attempting this conversion? I am somewhat limited in vacuum tubes and amp design! I have done some basic wiring, but no knowledge on amps!

Those of you in Ohio and Fur Peace'rs probably know Patrick Sweany - http://www.myspace.com/patricksweany.
He sometimes uses an old tube phonograph as an amp and it sounds amazing.
Of course it also helps that he is one killer guitar player.

Your best bet IMO is to gut it and re-assemble the parts into something else.
You've probably got two SE EL84 amps with a common power supply. There's enough stuff there for a start to a Lite II or other small 18 watt amp. Each SE output transformer can be used for a Champ type amp. Really, keep adding parts. You'll end up with three amps.
I've got something similar going on: I picked up a '55 Stromberg-Carlson phonograph amp. It's getting no respect on eBay so I eyeballed what I'll need to do to stuff the parts into a 5F4 chassis, so far so good at first glance. I even picked up a potted choke from a low powered AM transmitter that looks similar to the OT. Let the fun begin...

Might be better to keep it for a FM stereo radio. The opt's on this thing are probably not half as big as the ones in a Champ. The old tube FM radios if they use a good discriminator sound great.
