TG October 18th, 2009, 05:42 PM I've 3 nice little amps but often I just noodle with my telecaster without an amp sitting on the sofa watching TV.
I think those of us who do that deserve a club too.
gaddis October 18th, 2009, 06:08 PM I've been known to do that, but not nearly as much as I used to. During my first year of playing, I didn't even own an amp. At that time, I played my Tele unplugged whenever I played it at home. Had no choice. It's got it's own unique sound that I came to appreciate many years later after playing strats. Unplugged, a Tele definitely sounds more lively than a Strat, probably due to the tremolo bridge.
jefcon1 October 19th, 2009, 01:04 PM Unplugged is nice. I particularly like the telecaster for playing unplugged in the living room. And you don't ever have to worry about getting that 'ice pick in the ears' sound unless you jam an actual ice pick in your ears. I hate it when that happens.
whodatpat October 23rd, 2009, 04:47 AM Its my wifes favorit amp!
Kornelius October 23rd, 2009, 06:34 AM Late at night when the kids are sleeping it's good to stay alone in the dark and play unplugged. I do it also when i have some friends at home and while we chat i can play few licks without bothering anyone.
jkingma October 23rd, 2009, 06:52 AM That's the way I play 50% of the time... so I guess I'm in the club.
Starting 2 Old October 23rd, 2009, 08:26 AM As a rank beginner, the sounds I make are not pleasant for me, let alone others. I play unplugged most of the time. Only fire up the amp when I'm all alone.
Al Watsky October 23rd, 2009, 08:30 AM Lots of home practice no amp
Hotels amp less
Airport waiting rooms no amp
Thats the sound I want to hear through the amp anyway
My Ideal is to have guitar that sounds right with out an amp
To some degree I think thats one of the cool things about a good telecaster
Fret Wilkes October 23rd, 2009, 11:37 AM Back when I was a married man and just married, I used to walk around the house palying my Telecaster unplugged. My wife used to go on about her business never seeming to be distracted by this "practice". One day she was doing the dishes and I strolled into the kitchen playing unplugged. After a short burst of licks she slams the dishes down in the sink, turns around and screams "Don't DINK at me!!!!"
The 1st dark clouds of a brewing storm.
mr natural October 25th, 2009, 10:14 PM Funny, I've done this a lot over the years. Especially along with the TV. What I found, though, was that over time, I started picking harder and harder in order to hear myself and when I plugged in or played acoustic, I was slamming on the thing. So I've started using the Microcube when I'm plunking around the house and my picking is not so ham-handed anymore.

JPark October 25th, 2009, 10:34 PM I'm in, my brother and I do random jam sessions all the time unplugged.
PaisleyIsGod October 25th, 2009, 10:39 PM I have a hard time sitting and watching TV without having a guitar in my hand to mess around on. I always grab my Esquire when I'm about to plop down on a couch or my bed with the TV or a movie playing.
