Wiring with a humbucker

I am going to work on a friend of mine's strat. It's my first one that I'll be redoing. It was messed up sometime in the 80s when his dad "redid" it. He switched the middle pup with a seymour duncan single coil-sized humbucker. I guess since he did this neither tone works and the volume is more of a kill switch. (both I hope purely accidental) I was wondering what kind of wiring people have done to a setup like this. Just want to make it sound normal.

Thanks in advance
Kyle

The normal wiring would be,, hot to the switch and ground to the volume pot

I've always used Duncan's wiring page to help me out.
