Volume Pedal Blues

The string broke on my Ernie Ball VP Jr. No surprise there, right?

So I replaced the string kit, exactly according to the directions. Even watched the EB video on YouTube to make sure.

Well, now the taper is off, and I've contacted EB, but their response was of no help at all. Almost all of the volume increase is in the very last increment of its sweep. It all but renders the pedal useless.

I'm thinking I may need to replace the potentiometer.

I'd really appreciate any help from those with any experience or expertise.

Thank you very much.

When the 3rd string broke on my EB I got this:

and never looked back.

EB pedals are ridiculous.

I'm about to do almost the same thing. I'm going to get the Boss FV500H, but my wife's car just robbed us 0f 500.00 in repairs. I'll have to find a way to get by until next month. Just gotta' get through some gigs with what I have on hand. I have some volume pots on hand, but not sure if that's the problem.

I broke a second string in less than a year (!!??) and then replaced the string with 100 lb test fishing line. If I could get the taper right, I might have the problem solved, but it's still going to become a spare as soon as I can afford the Boss volume pedal.

Yeah, I'm done with EB volume pedals.

Almost all of the volume increase is in the very last increment of its sweep.

Try to roll the potentiometer by hand and see if the sweep is smooth and gradual.
If so, the string is probably not tight enough around the pulley.
