davie blue October 17th, 2009, 03:30 PM I just bought my first interface for messing around with Garageband on my new Macbook Pro. I'm running the Snow Leopard OS because it came with it. Anyway, I bought an M-Audio Fast Track, but found there is not yet a driver for it that works in Snow Leopard!!!
Anyone know if there is an interface with Snow Leopard drivers out yet? Or are companies like M-Audio pretty quick with releasing new drivers? Don't know if I need to return this or not.
getbent October 17th, 2009, 03:39 PM it is announced for January of 2010.
Return it if you have to stay on snow leopard and need to record now.
Tdot October 17th, 2009, 04:08 PM You could try this option before returning the Fast Track.

davie blue October 18th, 2009, 11:43 PM Thanks for the info! I've never beta tested anything before, so that sounds like fun. I definitely would get audio-geek cred for that, right?

Yes. unless you whine and want support instead of seeking workarounds...
expect the software to give you hard crashes... seriously.
Also, if this is a production machine.. make sure you are backing up with time machine or some other recovery software... make sure to run time machine prior to your beginning the test....
have fun geekboy!
Professorbx October 19th, 2009, 04:58 PM With my interfaces, the Fast Track has been something of a pain (only can use Core Audio-no 4 channel capability). My Mbox 1 is working alright, but Pro Tools 8 has a ton of quirks/crashes, unless I upgrade to the next version (which has no Mbox 1 support. My StealthPedal is working with no problems at all, so that is what I am mainly using.
StuH October 19th, 2009, 06:16 PM The joys of working with a new operating system.
Makes you wonder how these 3rd party developers can stay in business having to deal with this every couple of years, especially the smaller ones.
Hang in there a bit.
davie blue October 22nd, 2009, 10:48 AM Update: I've joined the public beta forum and downloaded the driver for Snow Leopard ... working fine and sounding good so far! No issues. Spending a lot of time with the Garageband amp preset called "Woodstock Fuzz" ... good times :)
davie blue October 22nd, 2009, 10:49 AM Oh, and I did back everything up with Time Machine before the download. Thanks for the tip!
Tdot October 22nd, 2009, 12:09 PM Cool. Beta versions usually work the basics, maybe more. But like getbent says, expect side effects. Unless you're lucky or they've really done their homework, something will hiccup or crash.
Keep an eye on their forum to see what problems other users run into. You are the brave test pilot.
getbent October 22nd, 2009, 06:43 PM Yay! Mr. Blue! Hope it is all blues skies and green lights! I love those kinds of beta tests!
You made my day that you backed up! Happy Recording!
