Nitro Primer with Waterbase laquer stain?

I have an Alder body that I sprayed with a reranch white nitro laquer primer. Can I use a waterbase stain and waterbase laquer over this primer or do I have to stick to a nitro laquer stain & clear coates?

Honestly I don't know but it is usually best to stick with one type of product.
Not too many things mix well.

Any possiblilty of spraying shellac over the nitro primer and then waterbase laquer?

Hey, Keith!

Truth is, none of us know enough about the exact chemistry of the products you have in hand.

The only way to get your odds in your favor is to do some test pieces. Because these coating companies don't want to share info with us because then the competition knows, also. Lotta guys are just as comfortable talking about "water based lacquer" as they are drinking "freeze dried beer", which is to say, not very.

I hear ya' BB....I'm using Stewmacs WB products. I will try it on some test scraps I have and let u guys know the results.

Stain is, by definition, transparent and usually needs to sink into something. Why put it on over a primer coat?
