Does anyone know if the decal on an actual '51 Nocaster is alligned straight with the fretboard or slanted like today's decals? Any pics of an actual headstock?

'51 Nocaster Headstock?NJDeVriese October 13th, 2009, 09:27 PM Does anyone know if the decal on an actual '51 Nocaster is alligned straight with the fretboard or slanted like today's decals? Any pics of an actual headstock? mcgeorgerl October 20th, 2009, 10:02 AM I know vitually nothing of vintage Telecasters but there are a few photos in Duchossoir's Book that show the decal placement (pages 14 and 36). Not sure how to describe it but it's sort of straight, but not. With the fretboard horizontal, the A string peg is close to vertical between the 'n' and 'd'. The 'r' is close to the same horizontal plane as the string tree. The nut slot for the B string sort of bisects on the horizontal plane the "cross bar" of the 'F'. My guess is that these were done by eye since there's really no way to do this even with mass production methods. Page 14 also shows an early Telecaster with the 'r' obscured by the string tree. That's my take on the photo on page 14 but again, I'm no expert nor do I play one on TV. Take a look at the great photos on the Telecaster Planet (http://www.telecasterplanet.com/) website. They will show you several '51 Nocasters, all just subtly different. | ||
