Ok all,
This may have been asked before, but I couldn't find it. I'm currently making a strat body with a decal of my daughter and I on it. It is gloss black. I've sanded the body all the way to 2000 grit wet and then polished with Maguire's of varying degrees. Looks real good until light reflects right and then I can still see tiny scratches all over. ANy suggestions or do I just have to live with real good shine and tiny scratches?

have you tried a hand glaze or swirl remover followed by a proper guitar polish?

I used the Maguire's Swirl X last. But what do you mean by a proper guitar polish. All the polishing I've done is by hand, but I have not bought any of the stuff from Stew Mac or such. I used Dupont rubbing and polishing compounds, then Maguires ultimate compound, then the Swirl X and One other scratch remover that I can't htink of right now.
Likely not enough for a gloss black finish huh?

I finish with a polish like this, it's not abrasive so won't get rid of any scratches but makes it feel and look lovely.

are you sure that you're being thorough enough when sanding to make sure you remove all the scratches from the previous grit and are you spending enough time on the coarse polishing compound? The foam pads that fit on drills can give good results. Also, black will inevitabley enhance and scratches or swirls and you may not be able to remove them. Is it only in certain light when looked at on an angle or is it from head on?

It could be the cloth you are using. Remember, when finishing in gloss black, EVERY SINGLE MISTAKE IN THE FINISHING PROCESS WILL SHOW UP!
