Zoom H2 woes: need advice from experienced users

After a couple of weeks, i've recorded three musical events with the H2. everything about the ease of recording and the sound quality is as good as advertised.

the hitch comes with the USB connection ... i'm running Mac system 10.5.6 and had been forewarned that the included H2 firmware/software 1.4 wasn't supported. so i downloaded H2 system 1.5 — the version written to fix that problem. the machine clearly shows the upgrade (1.5) as the current Zoom system.

but the USB link is still nonfunctional on my Mac.

* if i plug in the USB with power off, it goes directly to the USB screen with Storage selected ... so i hit Record, and the screen says Please Wait but nothing happens. it's Please Wait forever.

* if i start it up on AC power, hit Menu, scroll to USB, hit Storage and then Record, it gives me the USB screen on the H2, but it won't mount on the Mac.

my workaround has been to bring the Zoom and a Firewire drive in the house and do the transfer from my wife's Mac, running system 10.4.x — it works flawlessly there — then bring the Firewire back out to the Woodshed and work the files off my computer. but of course it's a time-consuming pain in the butt.

i'm certain the right Zoom software is installed, and i'm following the instructions in the manual to the letter, but no love between H2 system 1.5 and Mac system 10.5.6.

anybody got any idea what the glitch might be?

USB card readers are cheap and I hate trouble shooting hardware so I know what my lazy butt would do....

None of my recording stuff works with Snow Leopard.

Yep, I would go with a card reader.

I don't know what the glitch is but we've [our band; we bought one for our rehearsals and love it] had exactly the same problem and we couldn't solve it.

So as suggested above, whip out the card and pop it into an SD card reader. We do this after every rehearsal and all load it into our respective PCs/Macs so we have a copy to jam along to.

It's faster and you don't have to wait for updated drivers every time something changes.

.....and sifting through 15 drawers of junk, wondering where you put the cord, then pulling the one out for the digital camera only to discover it won't fit.

....maybe that's just me??
