sonofrock82 September 29th, 2009, 05:31 PM Hi, What do you think is the best creamy overdrive box?
I got a Fulltone Fulldrive II and in Vintage mod (TS808 style I Think)it sounds really creamy and soft, even hot like the blues. I don't like to Boost function, I'd prefer a separate Clean Boost. Does exsist one?
Tonemonkey September 30th, 2009, 07:54 AM This one perhaps? I've heard good things, but don't own one...yet!

schenkadere October 1st, 2009, 10:23 AM Listening to the demos, it doesn't seem all that creamy really.
I'm not really clear on what you're looking for. You want a creamy OD, which you say you have, and a separate clean boost channel or a separate pedal all together?
These are some good smooth 2 channel OD's, depending on how much you are looking to spend. I'd check out the Jetter Gear offerings(JetDrive or GS3), or maybe the Xotic BB Preamp Plus. One channel can be set as a boost the other to your flavor of OD.
sonofrock82 October 1st, 2009, 10:58 AM Thanks so much, yes I'd like a pedal that include the OD Vintage mod of the Fulldrive and a separate clean boost that works alone too!!!
winny pooh October 1st, 2009, 11:29 AM My Radial Tonebone classic does the creamy EJ and Gilmour sounds very well, very smooth and has very effective & Clean bass/treble eq and a 3 position mid control.
hannigan October 1st, 2009, 01:30 PM Once again I recommend the Catalinbread super charged overdrive.
Smooth and musical. I get the feeling I am the only one who thinks this.
Try one.

I used to have the Hyper Pak Dirty Channel. Have you ever tried it? If so, how does the Super Charged compare to it dirt-wise? I've got the Dirty Little Secret and like it a lot.
hannigan October 1st, 2009, 02:23 PM I have the hyper pak but I have not tried it yet. I will try it out tonight and get back to you. I also have really been digging the dirty little secret.
surfco October 1st, 2009, 02:42 PM MI Audio Blues Pro.
ReIgnition October 1st, 2009, 03:39 PM I really like my Barber LTD for a low gain, pick dynamic, transparent OD.
telerious October 1st, 2009, 08:40 PM The FDII is (IMHO) fully capable of really creamy OD and further that all pedals have sweet spots for any number of effects that you might want. Once you find it...work at dialing it in again....and that means in conjunction with the amplifier and guitar settings...the room etc so you learn the pedal.
Just my two cents. I like the FDII and the boost as well.

Telerious:
Cool. The only reason I sold my hyper pak was b/c it doesn't have a tone control, but I miss its distinctive roar. Oh well.
The Dirty Little Secret is really fun, isn't it? I use it a lot. Catalinbread makes great stuff.

I feel the same way about the Big Ben
That said there are at least a few admirers here

I haven't not tried that one but listened to it on their site and it sounds good! Too many pedals, too little time.
Radspin October 3rd, 2009, 02:36 PM I don't know if I'd call it "creamy" but the Xotic BB Preamp gets a really smooth overdrive sound that you might like.

Just tried the hyper pak I was not impressed at first a bit one dimensional but when I played it through a dieing old Decca tube amp it really sounded nice beeefed things up in a nice way , although I think many would think it was a tad muddy, it was smooth richness that the amp never had on its own.It did create a weird ju ju.
Not for everyone but left me smiling

Yeah, it did tend toward the muddy side, as I recall. That's why I wish it had a tone control to brighten things up a bit. But that's why that line is so small, just two knobs.
fadingcaptain October 3rd, 2009, 07:03 PM Barber LTD or Rothwell Switchblade.
Yes also to the MI Audio Blues Pro.
hedegaardo1 October 3rd, 2009, 07:16 PM All I can say is Analogman's King of Tone V4.. check it out :)
tjk3052 October 3rd, 2009, 10:52 PM Barber Small Fry. The dynamics knob and 3 different clipping styles gets you as smooth or chunky as you want.
RomanS October 4th, 2009, 01:30 PM I'm really stumped by not only one, but two people mentioning the Barber LTD - I mean, this is my all-time favorite overdrive pedal, but along with the Tim/Timmy it has to be the LEAST creamy overdrive EVER!
The LTD isd really transparent (which is the OPPOSITE category of creamy), and it is really uncompressed (which, again, is the opposite of creamy!).
"Creamy" to my ears (and I guess most other people's, too) means lots of mids and quite a bit of compression, and rather soft attack - think of the typical Santana lead tone, think of a cranked Boogie Mk. I - that's not exactly the signature sound of the Barber LTD!

Just tried the S F T and I liked it better than the Dirty Little Secret.
It was very dynamically sensitive, enriched tone, endless sustain, anybody thinking of getting the DLS should check out this one as well.
castpolymer October 7th, 2009, 03:31 PM I am not sure if this runs on 9v or adapter.

What's the "S F T"?
mrmorrison October 7th, 2009, 04:49 PM I like the EHX English Muff'n. You should really try one out.

leonard d rock October 7th, 2009, 07:35 PM an sd-1 with the stock op amp jrc4558dd changed to jrc4558d will make a creamy od for me.

hannigan October 7th, 2009, 07:42 PM What's the "S F T"?
Nobody knows what SFT stands for but it is another new Catalinbread od
I like it a lot, it is similar to the DLS but is voiced differently.
It says it was designed for bass but it is great for us six stringers as well.
seems good at getting close to a small faces tone. Very satisfying.
I have been a fan of these catalinbread products since they first hit the scene . The early pedals these guys made were covered in leather I first bought one for the novelty of it but was blown away by the tone.
The super charged overdrive has been a staple on my board for several years now, but it will get less use now that I have the SFT.
I rave about these pedals cause I like em . But have no affiliation other than satisfied customer.

That box art would be great on a stomp box.
and everyone knows milk is solar powered .
spinal October 8th, 2009, 04:26 AM you know it's a fuzz pedal but the subdecay tomato fuzz has a smooth & rich sound to my ears i was thinking of it cause i love that creamy sound too. maybe a boss blues od into a cranked vox like tame impala?
