I figure there's someone more educated on this. (http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Fender-Precision-Bass-Guitar-neck-Jazz-1968-76_W0QQitemZ180412937100QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar? hash=item2a0172f38c&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) I want a maple fretboard fretless, but is this right?

Doesn't look like a good bet to me. If nothing else you need to ask the seller about the exact dimensions of the heel. It look's funky... and a lot like it was subjected to a 6 screw mount. it might be for a 34" scale but not a stock Fender body.

Personally I don't care for the tag line 'We can't prove it's a Fender neck, but that is what it is..." the overall vibe of the ad alone would be enough for me to back away.

The truss rod nut looks like it's pretty beat up, either due to a wrong tool or excessive amount of force in the past. It makes me wonder about how well the truss rod works now. With the missing label and documentation, my opinion is it may have been a Fender neck, but not anymore. No value added for possible, but unverifiable vintage status.

In all, I'd say if you want to bid...bid low, no higher than you would on any other no name replacement neck.

"Note: We ARE selling this as a vintage Fender neck - not a copy or re-issue - because that is what it is. If you feel differently, please bid accordingly - or don't bid at all."

er...I'll take the latter option, thanks.

I have bought from this seller and was very happy with his product however I believe this is not a Fender IMHO.

a) The transition on the back of the pegboard is too pronounced ( too much of an edge). My maple 73 PB Fender has 2 gentle edges that do not meet in the center because they blend down. Repros have the edge that's easy to see.

b) Same at the heel. The radius is too flat a transition, again, too prenounced. Should be a smooth V shape not U shaped.

c) Distance from end of the skunk strip to transition is too long. Should be about the width of 2 fingers.

I certainly wouldn't bid on it as a vintage Fender neck, there are too many unknowns or discrepancies as previously noted. If it works for you as a Fender-style fretless neck and is within your price range, then it would be worthwhile.

I'm not expert, but it doesn't look "right" to me--especially those wood plugs (?) at the back of the neck heel.

Why buy 1 when you can get 2 for twice the price.

Not a Fender product. Bid accordingly.

Or you could simply use that beer bottle as a slide.

I decided against it. I'll prolly just get an eden or similar and pull the frets my own bad self
