Steppin' Back Up

I just found out last night that our current Worship Leader has agreed to my reluctant offer to take over the reins for a while while she deals with some medical issues. Possibly starting as soon as tomorrow....

I'm pretty rusty.....haven't been singing much the last couple years (just playing w/out a vocal mic) and all the worship songs I know by heart are about ten years old now and not known by this congregation

Do I try to stumble through songs I don't fully know, or throw in a couple old gems that people don't know???

Pick some songs that you can definitely knock out of the park and pick some that are newer to you and use a lead sheet. The rest of the band will carry you a bit. If you have other singers on your worship team they'll sing. Just get them started and lead them through the changes/transitions. (You don't have to sing every line, ya just gotta get 'em all going!).

Good luck, have fun and be passionate!

I think Bob is right. Play a couple of songs that you knew "in the day", and play some of what they are used to. That should get both you and the congregation on a wavelength.

Good that you (however reluctantly) took the reigns. That is tough, been there.

Have you learned the ones you've been singing in this congregation under the guidance of the previous worship leader? Sing them!
