Leo beat him by a year didn't he.....with the split P pickup? Or am I on acid? You may very well be correct, but Seth Lover = P.A.F. We're done here! voodoo_idol September 25th, 2009, 02:25 AM I do believe the P-Bass originally had a single coil pickup, and the split coil design came in the late '50s after the PAF. Frankjohnson September 25th, 2009, 10:07 AM You may very well be correct, but Seth Lover = P.A.F. We're done here! I appreciate the firmness of this. Agreed. Tim Armstrong September 25th, 2009, 08:49 PM The PAF humbucker pickup was introduced in 1955, the Fender split-coil pickup in 1957. Plus, they're pretty significantly different, the Gibson humbucker using two coils side-by-side, both picking up all six strings, while the Fender had one coil on the E and A strings and one coil on the D and G strings... Tim Dave W September 26th, 2009, 01:38 AM Gibson did bring it to market first. Just as Les Paul "invented" multi-track recording after it had already been in use in the movie industry for 20 years, humbucking voice and speaker coils were in use in mics, PA systems and radios 20 years before they were "invented" for guitars by Seth Lover. Bill Lawrence has said that the principle had been demonstrated well before 1900. rangercaster September 26th, 2009, 02:05 AM Thomas Edison stole the design from an early drawing by Ben Franklin, who was influenced by Leonardo DaVinci ... Shoved BassVIII September 26th, 2009, 06:22 AM OK, OK Tim, that answered my question well. And while yes the split P is bum canceling, it is not a humbucker. I just thought that maybe he beat seth to it. Now that we know that the technology was common in radios and such, why and how did Leo and Don Randall for that matter not incorporate it from the beginning? | ||
