Thanks for lookin'. I have a serious case of gas for a Recording King 000 finger style acoustic. Does anyone have feedback on the Jubilee series, specifically the ROJ-26. I don't have anywhere close by to try one out and I want to order one online soon. Have you played ANY Recording King guitar. The specs are good--I see good reviews. I need some hands on feedback. Do they have a nice sound with a little complexity to the notes. Comfortable. well built. Any of this. Is the nitro finish well done or too thick?

thanks a lot for any info

I bought an RO-227 (what they're now calling the "Classic Series with Abalone") about a year ago -- lovely guitar, nicely made and great sound. Bass and treble are well-balanced, with the round & creamy tone that comes from a shorter scale. Notes blossom nicely and the sustain is wonderful. This guitar has me working a lot harder on my legato to take advantage of all the overtones. The guitar loves to be played fingerstyle, but it doesn't shy away from a pick, either. It fights back just enough to respond well to dynamics.

The poly gloss finish on this model is pretty sturdy -- I wouldn't say it's overly thick, but it's not a thin finish, either. The nitro on the Jubilee series may be a bit different. The neck has a comfortable V and a beautiful, sturdy-looking volute. Rosewood back has a nice bit of figuring to it, while the grain of the spruce top is nice and straight, but not as tight as you might find on higher-end guitars. Compensated bridge. Inlays are very well done -- straight, no slop and little filler.

My biggest niggle is that one of the tuning machines was installed slightly crooked -- but I didn't notice it until I'd owned it for a couple of months, so it's not that obvious and doesn't affect the function of the guitar at all.

I was looking for something that could emulate a Martin Clapton sig (OOO-28EC). It's not to the quality of a high-end Martin, but it gets awfully close for a fraction of the price, and I do think it matches or surpasses any new Martin you could get for the price of the RK. I can't believe how much guitar I was able to get for less than a grand. Based on this experience, I would recommend it and would be interested in purchasing another guitar from them.

I looked a number of places online for one and narrowed it down to Elderly and Guitar Hut. Elderly didn't have any in stock, so I went with Guitar Hut -- my first purchase with them. They did a nice setup to the specs I gave them over the phone and were prompt & friendly. I have no affiliation with either store, and YMMV, etc., etc.

Good luck and good pickin'!

Just to follow up, this RK dread at Elderly has the same crooked tuning machine (treble E) that mine does. Note how the top of the machine is tilted slightly to the outside -- more than the corresponding tuner on the opposite side. Must be a manufacturing issue.
