Noisy VM Deluxe

Just got a VM Deluxe – against all logic as it's far too loud for home use – but even at low volume on the clean channel it's distractingly noisy.

If this is normal is it a consequence of the wattage of the amp... what I mean is, if I got a 15w amp like a Super Champ XD (which is what I probably should have got before my ego got hold of me) would that be quieter? I had a Blues Junior and from memory that never seemed this noisy.

More watts doesn't mean noisier.

Does the signal through clean channel with no effects bypass the digital circuitry? I doubt if it does, and of course I'm inferring that the digital path is noisy, my conjecture. If I keep effects pedals analog and digital in the signal path I get noise that would be absent if I plugged in with out them.

If there's no true bypass around the effects and modeling circuitry (mostly digital right?) then there is the unavoidable accompanying noise floor.

Sounds about right, if I understand you right.....

Just gone and tested it again... the noise is really only on the clean channel – where the effects are. Even when the effects are 'off' it's still hissing.

It's annoying because I bought the amp for the inbuilt delay and chorus thinking I could do without those pedals.

So I either keep it for the dirty/drive channel, which can be set clean of course, or get another amp..... :confused:

Any suggestions welcome!

Maybe you should exchange it for another one?

nice amp !!! IMO, either the amp is defective, or you are playing at very low volume ... most guitar rigs have a noise floor... if you don't input enough signal to drown out that noise,(and not much is needed) you will hear noise ... i also have a 2x6L6 combo and it needs to breathe ... when it does, it is not appropriate for residential use, and can be overly loud in a small club ...

On third (or is it fourth?!!) thoughts, I think maybe it is the low volume thing. Some of the noise is also coming from the guitar, but that will hopefully not be the case when my 'new' Tele and Strat arrive – both have the noiseless pups.

And it is a NICE amp for when I can crank it up a bit.... but I do wonder whether I should just get a 'simple' Blues Deluxe and use pedals for the chorus and delay (I already have a Hardwire chorus).

How did this turn out?

That's a lot of amp for home use :shock: My wife would put me in the doghouse if I had one of those. :lol:
