Well, I finally went and did it.....
that is: I went ahead and made up a set to get that "Buck Cannon" sound that I was getting/using prior to me changing over to my 2324 Buch's Nancy Pickups!
this was a time when I worked for another maker ~ and was playing in my "Buck Cannon" band using a Duncan "for Broadcaster®" and a 5/2 Nashville neck.
after some "tweaking" with the set - I came up with my own version for getting that sound I had back then -
Its a Alnico-3 Bridge wire 43 (1950 Broadcaster® era wire gauge 43) at 8.5k
and a 5/3 neck at 7.9k - Nickel Silver Cover ( Dark bluesy neck- but not muddy!)
this set is for players who like to run some dirt "Full time" and maybe some delay too?
its more of a Jeff Beck-ish way to get Roys tones - but its pretty dang cool.
its not a set for plugging straight in and trying to cop Roys tones -
more of a rocker then a twanger.
but I felt that I had a nice sound that was well commented back in those days and I wanted to launch a new set to tribute that time of my life..
so I thought I would announce it here first
its not even on my web site yet.
I got "Bucks-Cannon" set #0001 installed in my same Tele® I used back in those days - and its sounding KILLER...
( FWIW I do not play out anymore at all - as Buck Cannon or even as just (myself) Don Mare...
This is due to 80% arthritis taking over my back and neck - sadly I had to quit playing out - cause my back and neck just becomes unbearable in one set... and popping over the counter pain pills is not the answer - so I stopped playing gigs)
so there ya have it - a tribute set to my old days ...
I hope some players will use them and enjoy this set of pickups.
cheers
Don
