due to some circumstances, I may be able to purchase a cole clark ac1 for a very reduced price. This is the dreadnaught model without the pickups or the cutaway. However, I would like to have a guitar that I can use amped, so I'm looking at retro fitting something to it. My question is : What is the best style of pickup for me to use (piezo under bridge, soundboard transducer, under string) and what is a good brand & price point to look at starting. I'll only be playing light strumming stuff, some finger picking, and will only ever play live to a small church audience (they're usually forgiving). At home it will be primarily used unplugged. Any ideas?

that's the one I've pulled the trigger on. All the reviews I've read rate it very very well, plus there is minimal damage you can do installing them, and you don't have to cut a hole in the side to accommodate pre-amps. Any tips or tricks to know on the installation and EQ'ing for these? I'll be playing it through a Super Champ XD (which I have yet to acquire, but have been given the go ahead via the Trouble and Strife, as long as I can offload other gear to finance it.)

Acoustic amplification is a completely different animal than electric amplification. Electrics work is a fairly narrow range of frequencies. The tonal breadth of acoustic instruments benefits from amplifiers made especially for them.
Electric amps are responsible for a good part of the overall "sound." They are, in effect, the second half of the instrument. Acoustic amps, on the other hand, are designed to transparently reproduce a broad range of frequencies. In effect, they are mini PA systems.
In fact, many (like me) choose to not shell out the cash for a dedicated acoustic amp and go right into the house (or church) PA system using a DI. I use the L.R. Baggs Para Acoustic DI (http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/LR-Baggs-Para-Acoustic-DI?sku=307160). It's a popular DI. There are many lower-priced and fewer-featured models that folks like, too. If your church has a PA system that you can hook into, this might be an excellent way to go.

You can use an electric guitar amp (or a bass amp). Many do and like the sound. Know, however, that the amp will "color" the overall sound. Many don't like it. For church work, you could also learn to play with a mic (don't move around). If you can control feedback, many would say this is the best overall sound.
I've heard great things about the K&K systems. One day, I will get one. For the moment, I use a L.R Baggs M1 high-end soundhole pickup and a cheaper Fishman Neo-D soundhole pickup. They're both fine (I'd actually like to swap the Neo-D for another M1).
Good luck!!
