i had a sunn 200s (80 WATTS + A 2-15 JBL CAB) in the early 70s.
this sounded great w a tele bass
great amp,one of the few "wish i still had it" amps

i have a 73 sunn model t that has been my main gig'n amp for years, mainly used w/ a single 15 jal cabaret cab.

recently retubed it w eh6550s and some n/o/s/ telefunken 12ax7s

i play old school r+b and i play in a jump swing band and this amp is the cats ass..

They were popular in the Northwest in the late 60s. They were built in Tualatin, Oregon. Norm Sunholm (sp?) of the Kingsmen built them with his brother at first. Their cabs were rock solid.

I got to play threw a Sunn head on and off for a couple years that my buddy had probebly 10 years ago..
The thing seriously needed some attention. (probebly capasitors), and I beleive the tubes may have been a bit pre historic. Huge Coke Bottle ones.. ;)
He eventually sold it to another friend ,that still plays out with it.. ;)
When I think of Sunn, I have to remember a very good guitarist, that managed to treat many (myself included) to some very awesome guitar playing..

[sigh] wish I could say I do.... but don't own one.

My friend has a Sunn Sentura II (w/ EL34's) with a matching 115 cab. Very nice amp. Super round, full, warm, nice harmonics. I don't know if I'd say they are the holy grail of tone [cough, Fender, cough], but they are holy indeed and if anything, I'd compliment how well they mesh with other amps. I was playing through Fenders and Gibson Goldtones while his accompanying guitar through the Sunn and they compliment each other very well.

I used to play with guy that used a Sunn amp. If I recall correctly, it was a Sunn Beta Lead (100w?) head and 4x12" cab, plus a 2x10" powered cabinet that he put on the other side of the stage. Had a great sound.

I had a Sunn Beta Lead combo that I used for over 10 years starting as a teenager. I used it for guitar, bass and vocals at various times and it worked great for all of them. I would still have it now if it hadn't perished in a fire back in the 90's that destroyed most of my gear (except my MIJ paisley Tele that survived the fire, after sitting on the basement floor immersed in water for a week).

Sunn 100S. MoNSTah, and sick sick amp. Not the greatest cleans but this hUUUUGE tight beefy bottom youl never want another amp when you hear it . Encouraged most of you don't realise about them as I want one or two more, speciafically a Model T.. although this *is the brain dead Tele forum totally out of touch with reality, so in actuality they are already blown up to where the prices are nuts , thanks to the stoner/doom crowd.

I played a 100S through the late 60's and 70's. It had a horn with a crossover in the top half of the cab and I believe a 15" in the bottom half. I sold it 73 because I needed cash at the time. I wish I had kept it (where have I heard that before).

It was big and loud. But it was really tough. We used to travel a lot and the equipment would stay in the trailer. So it would see all kinds of weather. It'd get banged around and it never failed me.

I have a 200S, which I've used both for bass and for guitar. Here's a shot onstage pushing a 4x12:

Being used with a 2x12 open-back (DIY cab made from a gutted combo with a couple Celestions):

I used to have a Sunn Alpha 212R. I was a huge fan of the Mid Freq. Knob. The volume was a bit wacky, though. No sound until I hit 2. The difference from 2 to 3 was absolutely ridiculous, though! Rattled my windows! I LOVED the clean sound I got from it. One of the loudest solid state combos I've ever played.

I have a mint condition Model T from 1973 and you will not find another amp with as much balls as this amp has. Very distinct sound, cuts through all other amps on stage. Takes pedals Very well, tons of overhead. For years in the 70's and 80's I gigged with a Sunn Scepture. Two 6550's, tube rectifier, fantastic blues amp when cranked you can do anything with these amps but one thing ~~ You can not play sloppy cause it will be all out there exposing your naked ass in front of everyone. So if you have the balls to rip into your amp you better do it with conviction and no slop. Love these amps.

I've got a Sunn Solos II, only the second owner if you'd believe that. I've also got a 90s Sunn 410 Bass cab with a blue grill. Can't imagine playing through anything else, hah.

I picked this 1200s up from the original owner today. I couldn't find a rip in the tolex or in the grill cloth. This is as mint as you can get!
