scosystems August 26th, 2009, 12:47 PM Hi Guys,
Only been a member a short time, good to be able to discuss things "UK"!
telepath August 26th, 2009, 12:49 PM Great idea Overseer - Count me in!
Ok here's my 'about me' bit: -
Two Partscaster 'tele's here (another donor is on the way), one cream and one natural blackguard.
Also have a Squire strat that is headed for the door to make way.
My interest is mainly in hunting down bargain Tele / T-Types (decent copies mainly) and to mod them into something 'better' i.e. playable, sound-wise, enjoyable and better looking, with a bit of vintage vibe.
I have also recently developed an unhealthy inrerest in the Squier '51 model, and I'm keeping my eyes peeled , particularly for a blonde one at a decent price.
Thats me - who's next .. ;)
Overseer August 26th, 2009, 12:56 PM cheers.. i nearly called this the British Broad(Tele)caster Club ;) but thought better of it!
a friend of mine has a squier 51.. its not blonde though.. its partly what got me fiending a tele.. a different friend has an affinity tele which i dont like the narrow neck on, but the squier 51 was what swung me back to the tele camp!
i'm a newb guitarist so resisting the GAS to buy more right now.. down the line i hope to have another Tele modded to the nines.. maybe lightened for transportation as a 'beater' type thing (i have a 3/4 size acoustic for that right now)... and one idea is to mount something like a px4d directly in the body so its all self contained.. who knows!
Stratsrgood August 26th, 2009, 01:07 PM Count me in!
I've got two Tele's at the moment, a MIJ Pink Paisley and a MIM 72 Custom. The 72 has become my favorite guitar- good for anything.

Zillinois August 26th, 2009, 03:59 PM Can I ask a naive question? Are Fender guitars hard to get in UK & Europe?
TeleKast August 26th, 2009, 04:03 PM Private Telekast reporting for duty Sir! (*salutes*)...
16 Teles at the moment and counting...
Zillinois - Fenders are easy enough to get here - we just pay a heck of a lot more! ;-)
BritishBluesBoy August 26th, 2009, 04:08 PM I guess that means me too then...
6 Telecasters and other assorted guitars.
Overseer August 26th, 2009, 04:10 PM Can I ask a naive question? Are Fender guitars hard to get in UK & Europe?
In the UK no.. I live in a large rural town we have one slick guitar store and another guy that trades second hand stuff.. I drive past that one and his window changes regularly with new stock. noticed a new bunch of teles and strats today.
My new one can be got for around £250 online.. In the states they go for $350 online or £215.. A diff of 35 quid or $56
Togman August 26th, 2009, 04:15 PM East Anglia registering.
I have just the one Tele - an all original '68.
A.B.Negative August 26th, 2009, 04:27 PM Hello from Scotland!
My main Tele is a CIJ which has had the body replaced with a MIM and has a Bigsby B50. I'm putting together a partscaster with a Highway 1 body and a Warmoth neck but it'll be a while before it's finished.
pfogle August 26th, 2009, 04:49 PM ...I have also recently developed an unhealthy inrerest in the Squier '51 model, and I'm keeping my eyes peeled , particularly for a blonde one at a decent price.telepath - check out London Gumtree - I saw one there a few days back - very good price, I'd have a go but my wife would kill me just now!
ps no connection with seller.
pps I got two teles now - bought four since last Feb and sold two - each has a story!
First had a MIM blackout SSS Fender - black on black. Sold that 'cos the neck was two thin for me... then got a MIK lite ash which I later swapped for a MIM '72 custom RI.
Then yesterday, I scored a black/white pg standard MIK '89 Squire. It needs TLC but feels fab. Electrics are pretty crap and the frets have some wear, but WTH it was cheap and has an awsome neck.
Phil
savvy August 26th, 2009, 05:00 PM Count me in too if Squire Affinity's count? Mod's are Les Paul neck humbucker in neck position(still got the bridge pup of the pair) with AXL/AMG bridge pup, wired as per Craig Anderton 5 position and tone volume link wire moved to ctr lug on volume pot and shielded cavities, using a 0.05mf cap.vintage type bridge and through stringing with reversed control plate.
I can get loads of tones but love the neck/bridge series which gives,in my opinion a nice classic blues sound.
Hope the pics come through!!!
Sollophonic August 26th, 2009, 05:06 PM North of England here.
Quite a few Teles in my collection
Squier Standard, Squier Affinity, a couple of homebuilds, a partscaster that lives at my workplace and a Peavey Generation.
Plus quite a few other electrics, acoustics and resonators.
I too am on the lookout for a Squier 51, though not bothered about the colour/condition
Nice for us Brits/ex-pats to have our own thread. Lets keep it bumped!!!

Cheers Phil!
I'm guessing I might get into hot water if there was another purchase (before offloading) too ;)
As the '51 is renowned to be a tinkerers treasure, and maybe also the first guitar for some ham-fisted yoofs, I'm hoping to find a '51 relatively locally, so I can make sure it has not been badly modded (dont mind at all if it has been nicely modded ;) ) and plays well.
It might be a wait!
Ive got my camo on and I'm hiding up in them trees ..
Gunner Telepath,
over and out - for now
have a great BH Weekend folks !
Nobster August 28th, 2009, 12:01 PM What ho chaps! expat Nobby Nobster reporting for duty  (with upper class twit accent)
Telecasters you say? ah yes, I've got one Fender that was born under good old Ted Heath but I didn't take her home until that blaggard Harold Wilson got in.
I've got another that was assembled here in foreign parts, as they say. Plain looking little thing but holds her own, stiff upper lip and all that rot.
edit: and here they are, the dear old girl has the white blouse.

funff September 2nd, 2009, 05:54 PM I'm in if you'll have me!
I'm "down" to three main teles now, two Custom Shops went recently and reluctantly to fund a new car
Two partscasters and one Classic 50s Esquire left.
...although there are another three in pieces around the house... This TDPRI place has a lot to answer for... !!!!
Suttykins September 2nd, 2009, 05:57 PM Reppin' the tele up here in lancashire
got a much modified mex standard tele that's been put through it's paces over the years but my main squeeze is a deluxe roadhouse strat with texas specials (sorry teleheads)
degsycaster September 2nd, 2009, 07:08 PM Excellent idea for a club Overseer, my dear old thing. I have a 2007 Blonde Baja and a brand spanking new MIM Standard in black with a vintage Fender 3 saddle bridge and a Tonerider Hot Classic bridge pickup in the post. Anything other than a Telecaster just isn't cricket (any Aussies looking in?).
funff September 2nd, 2009, 08:03 PM Those Tonerider pickups are astonishingly good value for the money, eh what?
My current favourite pickups: Twisted Tele neck, Nocaster bridge, Tonerider Vintage neck. The Tonerider holds its own against the others, certainly.
Mid Life Crisis September 3rd, 2009, 09:35 AM A Brit from sunny Cambridgeshire here representing the East.
I have two Teles, a CIJ 62RI, totally stock:
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg161/pronovotech/005-2.jpg
and a Squier Affinity BSB, modded with a bone nut and some Wilkinson Strat-style stainless steel saddles (sorry about the aliteration there!). When I get round to it, I'm going to swap the neck pickup for something better than the stock one. The bridge sounds OK to me. Since I gave it a good fret level it plays like butter:

That's a really nice Tele!
On another tack, any UK guys or gals know where I could buy just the bridge pickup from a '51 nocaster set? I want to use one in an Esquire project but I'd rather not shell out for the full set and then sell or hold onto the neck pup if I don't have to. I've got my eye on Bay and I've emailed the usual outlets but no-one in the UK (or thomann) appears to sell just the bridge pup.

The quality of this thing is astonishing for the £27 I shelled out to Axesrus, purely aesthetically speaking. The meterials look really genuine and it weighs a ton. She'll be in by the weekend

funff - it's in and it sounds very, very good at low volume. Not had a chance to blast it up yet but I will on Weds night (band practice). Not quite as 'hot' sounding as I expected, plenty of twang and bite with a nice middle.
I will report back later in the week and give you all the full high volume lowdown. Tally-ho chaps.
funff September 6th, 2009, 01:59 PM Degsy, that's great! I'm glad you're happy with it. I've had nothing but good results from the few I've had, and for the cost.... well, what can go wrong?
Still looking for that single Nocaster bridge pickup, though.....

Just a bit more feedback funff. Had a good couple of hours today jamming at home with a mate. When he finally gave the bloody Tele back to me !!!! , I turned up my Hot Rod Deluxe and gave it some welly.
Let me tell you - this pickup sounds suuuperb. It made the drive channel of my HRD sound good! Quite a feat with a HRD!
My stage driven tones come from a Marshall GV2 for most of my pub-rock/punk stuff and a Boss Bluesdriver for 'Keef' type crunch or rockabilly rawk. Hooked the rig up and my whole sound came alive.
2 things of note - 1. the string seperation is fantastic, even on heavily driven tones & 2. reduce the volume and it cleans up beautifully.
This is one hell of a pickup for £27.
Telemaniac September 7th, 2009, 03:45 PM Three Telecasters only these days, one surf green made by Kevin Bolinsky (the "Surfcaster"), one a TDPRI raffle prize also finished (in shell pink) and put together by Kevin (the "Shellcaster"), and a MiM Standard which I bought from another TDPRIer and really like a lot.
Oh, and my Tele-Strat which has a Strat body and Tele neck - I had a few bits lying around one of which was a tele neck with a strat butt shape!!
Note to self - must update my avatar picture - the Nocaster has gone and there's a couple new including my 1984 Collector's Ovation . . . .
milospilo September 12th, 2009, 11:57 AM Greetings from sunny Kent. I'm afraid I only have the one Telecaster but it's my main gig instrument so it's seen a lot of action. I think it's one of them thar MIM Specials from the '90s. It's being used tonight in Dover, as it goes.

degsycaster September 13th, 2009, 08:20 PM Excellent! I haven't tried the hot classic bridge pup, or any Tonerider bridge pickup come to that, I'd be interested on your opinions.
Well. Had a gig last night on Mersea Island near sunny Colchester, and I decided I'd give the Tonerider loaded MIM the first half - upto the 'beer & fag' entry on the set list. Bit of a risk as I'd not even used it for a band practice, but I figured I would be able to get a good idea if it was gonna do the biz during the sound check.
I blew me away!! The tonerider is a serious pickup. I've upgraded guitars with Fender OVs, Wilcos, Seymours, Dimarzios - the lot, in the past. The tonal quality of these Toneriders is superb. If you've not considered a Tonerider in the past coz it just 'sounds too cheap' then I urge you to think again.
I was still playing the MIM at the end of the encore (it was a good night), even put a little 'ding' in it - must've been good!
Stratsrgood September 14th, 2009, 05:41 PM degsycaster, thank you for your reveiw! I've got a 72 Custom that I wanted to leave original, but I've known for a while that the bridge P/U needs just a bit more output to match the neck humbucker, looks like the Tonerider may be the way to go.
I have a set of the Tonerider "Alnico 4" humbuckers in my Tokai Les Paul and that honestly is one of the best sounding guitars I've heard.
funff September 14th, 2009, 06:16 PM Degsy, great news and great review! They sure are good value, for silly money. Welcome to all the other "new" guys too.

Stratsrgood. To put it into context - the Tonerider is a lot clearer and more complex, tonally than the high output units that are standard fit on the MIM standard, but not quite as 'ballsy' and bass heavy as the Custom Shop Broadcaster in my Baja. There's more 'twang' than the 'Broadcaster' but still an awful lot of bite. Let me know what you think if you do get one.
Regards, Degsy.

Absolutely lovin' the Rossi Tele ;) - Spot-on perfect!
BTW - Did anyone ever work out what the Rossi TM hole is actually about/for? ;)
OK, Ive Posted the same wherever anyone would listen (sorry!).
CV Tele arrived today, and i am ... 'Over the Moon' as they still say in British Football speak.

musicalmartin September 17th, 2009, 09:08 AM The Toneriders are great pickups .I can now add an SX thinline from Ebay Belgium to the list .Very good guitar ,worth more , and has a very nice Squier 51 style neck ,thick and jumbo frets.SX are rapidly becoming the modders delight it seems .I will put in Keystones or Toneriders but it doesnt sound too bad stock .
telepath September 18th, 2009, 05:53 AM Wasn't the hole supposed to be for his cable to go through, thought up during a stoned moment?
Hi Glebe
!!
I'd hoped it would be something as vintage Rossi-esque as that. Excellent!
Nice Vester by the way.
Did you cut down the bridge yourself to fit in the 'bucker?
If so, I have a question, as I have to do similar to my (pink!) 'set-up-for-slide-only' Tele copy to fit a Fender Widerange RI 'bucker in the bridge.
I'm expecting to just hacksaw(?) across the existing bridge to shorten it, and route out the existing hole.
Was it as 'easy' as that for you?
Twang Man September 18th, 2009, 06:04 AM Hey up there, Yorkshire reporting in!

Yes, this is my dream come true being a Status Quo fan since the mid 70s! It really does all those classic Rossi sounds, I play it through a VOX AC30 and can really nail that vintage Quo sound. Actually I just played along with some early 70's Quo albums and they're not half as bad as I remembered :-) That hole was drilled when he was stoned (Francis doesn't remember why), that green paint was Cuprinol, popular fence paint from early 70's! His Tele was originally sunburst! He claims that it's a late 50's Tele but if you look closely (http://www.bogusquo.com/replicas_francis_main.htm) it has a maple cap neck, so it must be from early/mid 60's.

telepath September 18th, 2009, 09:12 AM OK, thought I'd post some pics .. ;)
Partscaster:
You can see i had some rather major intonation issues after swapping out the original bridge, and then putting on a 22 fret neck .. had to shift the whole thing North by about quarter of a mile ..
Its Ok now though .. just ;)
GFS Fatbody Alnico pickups - electrics not finished yet, but i play it unplugged .. a lot ..

Pinky!
This one has raised action and nut, and is set up for slide.
The neck pup is disconnected now, and I have an 'esquier' style guard to go on it.
And a Fender WRH RI to go in the bridge.

and this is latest .. needs no introduction really but it is a Squier CV 50's Tele.
(and is supposed to be 'white-ish' blonde, but this one is more ivory blonde.

Thems my planks ;)
glebe digital September 18th, 2009, 11:21 AM Nice!
If you go for a bridge bucker on the pink [soon to be esquire] I'd make sure you get a coil-tap....really versatile.
Here's my pseudo-Esquire....best guitar I have:
http://www.glebedigital.co.uk/EsquireA1.jpg
Under-pickguard neck pup, wired '53 style.....coil-tap on the bridge pup engages additional wire, so a 'beefy boost' if/when needed.
Twang Man September 18th, 2009, 12:30 PM whats the Trace Elliot like its plugged into?

Lovely job on the broadcaster Peter.
Did you source the case within the UK?
Who's the manuacturer, and is the case decent?

I bought the case via an auction on eBay UK. It's a Nocaster Custom Shop case (made by G&G?).
It's great for show but offers quite poor protection and it's terribly balanced. I don't use it for gigging but for keeping a guitar in under the bed! And for photoshoots.
Having said that, I love it.
They pop up every so often on eBay and they feature regularly on eBay USA. Or Glendale stocks them (although they are the non-tweed variety) and Dale will ship to the UK (for a small fortune).
Hope this helps.

loog November 15th, 2009, 01:07 PM that was quick Peter. thanks!
did you document your relicing in a thread?
It looks incredibly well done, especially the wear and rubbing around the strap buttons, the hardware and the checking.
Sollophonic November 15th, 2009, 01:14 PM Forgot about this thread, then realised that I hadnt posted any pics

Not quite a Tele but not far off. Cost me £50, changed out the humbucker bridge for a standard one, superb little guitar. Now lives at my workplace.
Heres my Teles with some of their playmates

If you run the slideshow and click the "Show Info" them you'll get the associated notes with the pictures.
The finish was done by the internationally famous Clive Brown who'se based in Ripon, North Yorkshire.
I gigged it last night and played through a 100s Marshall all valve head + a 4 x 12 speaker cab. I was stood in front of it and I feel my trousers flapping! I nearly forgot the words of one of the songs as I was enjoying the tone so much!
 Peter
