Stereo vs. Mono jack questions

Hey, there:

I'm building my first two stompboxes, both from BYOC. I've got the 5 knob compressor almost ready to compress, and I'm building up their confidence boost into a stand alone pedal, complete with enclosure, led, and pot. My question is this: the confidence boost kit came with 2 mono jacks. Should one of them be stereo? Is there a loss in quality if they are both mono? If my signal path makes a difference: Fender American deluxe>compressor> Vox wah>bad monkey>(eventually the confidence boost)>big muff>cool cat tremolo>tech 21 dla>peavey classic 30.

It seems to me there should be one of each. The stereo jack uses the third lug to switch the battery on when you plug in your cable, it doesn't affect the sound quality.

The stereo jack is usually for the input, to follow everybody else. If the function is confusing, insert a plug in each jack and look at how the stereo jack will make contact with the Ring section. That ring section is already connected to the sleeve with a mono plug. So, with a stereo plug that feature is used to wire the BATTERY negative to the ground lug (sleeve) and the CIRCUIT ground goes to the sleeve connection. Now your mono plug acts as a switch to complete the ground circuit when you plug it into a stereo jack. Way too much information? Well, maybe so...

OK,I'm just trying to figure this out too.
in a layout diagram that i'm using,it says to wire the ground wire from the 9v negative adapter jack to the ring of the stereo input jack,and then the sleeve of the stereo input jack to the 3pdt footswitch ground. does that sound right? but in the above post,you said wire the grounds to the sleeve?
i would have attached all the ground wires to the sleeve.
i know this is basic stuff but i'm trying to understand why one ground wire goes to the ring and the other to the sleeve.

The ground wire from the battery connects to the ring of the stereo jack and the sleeve connects to the circuit ground. When you insert the mono plug in the stereo jack, the ring and the sleeve are connected together, the ground from the battery gets connected to the circuit ground, turning the battery on, if you will. I'm not sure if my explanation is any clearer, but the battery ground wire connects to the ring of the stereo jack.

Go to the BYOC Forum and look at the Confidence Boost thread section. There is a diagram somebody posted that shows exactly how to box up a Confidence Boost with bypass switching, LED, and volume pot. You'll need to buy a stereo input jack. It worked for me.
