tweeet August 24th, 2009, 11:13 AM Valued opinions here please guys.I can't make up my mind whether to leave this as it is or black lacquer the sides. It's Candy Apple Red.I'm going to sell it so the majority will rule.....I used to be so decisive..but now I'm not too sure !

That's a good point...here we go
pilotfish August 24th, 2009, 12:17 PM FWIW, I think it looks great as-is. I briefly had a Peavey T-60 that was close to that, and really liked the finish.
mgdesigns August 24th, 2009, 12:27 PM Looks nice. How did you achieve this? I personnally like a three-tone burst with the black sides feathering onto front and back. But that's my personal likes.
jimd August 24th, 2009, 12:34 PM I like it just the way it is.
pickinpete August 24th, 2009, 12:41 PM As is...very sexy!
homerzeppelin August 24th, 2009, 12:47 PM Leave it. Looks awesome now, and who knows how the burst will turn out with adding another element.

It's nicotine lacquer as a base colour, with Auto Air colours translucent bright red airbrushed on the outer edge...then AA colours Candy Apple on the edges over the top.It has been clear coated and should cure in another two weeks....that's why I'm thinking if I am going to black edge it I need to do it soon to then put a few more coats of clear over the black..
Jeff_K August 24th, 2009, 01:29 PM Okay, new guy, dissenting opinion. Be gentle. I think when you add your bridge, electronics, and pickguard you will cover 90% of the lighter color and you won't have much of a burst left. I think this because it's exactly what happened with my Strat. I thought it looked great in the garage and now it's mostly black with a hint of burst.
But it's a great color even if you go as-is. I just don't think it will be very bursty.

I know what you mean.I've been guilty of that before...edged too much black and lost the effect basically. If I do black the edge it is only to be the edge...maybe floating 10mm on the front and back at most.

+1 from me.
Jack Wells August 24th, 2009, 02:19 PM I would probably leave it as it is. Black edge sunbursts are so common.

I know the effect you speak of, but I don't find this body is like that. A skimpyburst effect is IMO just as likely to turn a buyer off.
I would build it as it is. There's just too many black guitars, right now. Black is a "salvage" color and I avoid it.

+1
tweeet August 24th, 2009, 05:19 PM Ok..thanks all...so far I think it's thumbs up to stick with it as it is.
eric_o August 25th, 2009, 12:10 AM Keep it, but I am biased. Cherry burst is my favorite transparent finish on a guitar.
blimpo August 25th, 2009, 12:14 AM Looks super, like the sun coming up on a new day.
Marc Rutters August 25th, 2009, 01:48 AM It's done, hardware time.
tweeet August 25th, 2009, 07:00 AM Thanks all. It's not a build this one...this is the finished body minus wet sanding and polishing of course.I've got two builds on the go for other people so this body I'll sell when polished....maybe on an auction site if I can find one !!
Parma_TeleMon August 25th, 2009, 07:07 AM Looks tasty to these eyes!
