Epiphone Valve Specialcharlie chitlin August 23rd, 2009, 01:04 PM Go on...admit it... You love it. A real sleeper, IMO. Some JJ's and a Sig Ceramic. Zzzzzzzzing! charlie chitlin August 26th, 2009, 04:45 PM I think 2 people have owned one of these. Me, and the guy I bought it from! I think it weighs 38 lbs. That's almost 8lbs/watt. Good think Twins don't have that ratio! Damned pressboard. teleman55 August 29th, 2009, 02:36 AM I got one of these! I guess that makes 4 people, counting the guy who sold it to me. I really like this little amp. It's real dark compared to my Fenders but has it's charms. Makes my Strat bridge pu come alive. I put a Sig Alnico in it for a while but just put the stock one back in. Or run it through a 1x12 w/ a Jensen P12Q. It's one of my two play at home amps but I recently took it to a quiet gig at a tiny place. Used the 1x12 and a/b'd it with a deluxe reverb. Worked nice. You're right about the weight for a 5W amp. klast August 29th, 2009, 04:17 AM Make that five. I've owned one and sold it. Half decent bluesy crunch at low volume with Tele/Strat on bridge pickup and that was it. Klas tubetone January 13th, 2010, 01:01 AM I've got one as well, heavy little thing. I think it will make a nice chassis for a real amp. tt jimbojo July 13th, 2010, 04:26 PM Picked one up yesterday as a back up amp, great tone at lower volume, don't mind the weight cuz its liighter than my Classic 30. I hear there are some cool mods can be done on this thing so once my classic is out of the shop I may try bipasing the onboard FX. Changing the tubes, etc. fenderslaper July 29th, 2010, 08:57 PM I have one too. Weight doesn't bother me either, cuz it never leaves my office. I'm a bass player, so 38 lbs is the lightest amp I own! Taigatrommel April 2nd, 2011, 06:39 PM I've got one that's my main amp (I don't gig), its output is great for a living room. However, I wouldn't mind a brighter sound- I must try adding an EQ pedal to see if I can get better results through that. Great for blues, OK for some howly leads as well, not much of a rhythm amp. dajoth September 4th, 2011, 05:13 PM Just bought one myself, very impressed, very heavy. Plan to put in some cryo valves and a Jensen. Should be great! dajoth September 17th, 2011, 12:18 PM Just bought one myself, very impressed, very heavy. Plan to put in some cryo valves and a Jensen. Should be great! I have just put in a set of Cryo Valves and a Celestion G10 Greenback. It has really opened the amp up, giving a warm bluesy tone, with an earlier breakup, this has been a change for the best. The amp is also feels louder along with more response from the EQ. Looking forward to the speaker breaking in. The digital effects remain intact on this Valve Special, I especially like the reverb and slap delay, and using these effects does not take anything away from the valve and speaker additions. Although I don't use any other effects a great deal. PhatBoy September 17th, 2011, 02:52 PM I guess I am #12. I still have it, in pieces (chasis & cabinet) from trying to do some mods.I felt it needed some tweaking. zatoichi September 19th, 2011, 02:05 AM Great for blues, OK for some howly leads as well, not much of a rhythm amp. Odd to hear that - it's the most flexible amp I've ever used for rhythm-guitar sounds (my forte is rhythm). Not a particularly highly-thought-of box, but I frankly love mine. Depends on what you want, I guess. dajoth October 27th, 2011, 04:02 PM I have just put in a set of Cryo Valves and a Celestion G10 Greenback. Much cleaner, almost Fender sound. Pleased with the outcome. |
