mtnbiker5 August 24th, 2009, 07:53 AM Well heres mine. Picked the Body up from Reddirt on the RR forum. Pretty basic set up. Ten piece pine body-not hardened or sealed, RR fender blonde and very thin clear, just enough to get the shine you see here. it was tough not to sand through. Pick up is a hot alnico II fat body(wider pole pieces-think quater pounder). Custom Tortoise pick guard, Neck is off my 95 Telecaster special (I gotta have that neck on my #1) controls are from the special but the plate and knobs are from a road worn.
Frankly Im shocked at how resonant and twangy this bad boy is!! I get alot of conmpliments on the tone using this with my Blues Jr.
had alot of fun with this.. its aging quickly though. I will try and get a new shot to show how shes breaking in

avantnoise August 25th, 2009, 08:17 AM Ok Pine Boy's Riddle me This??
I am building my first Pinecaster but unsure about the finish i want. I have very limited exposure to wood working and finishing. I would like a finish that looks a little aged but also not so thick. I would like a small amount of shine though. Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks,
sLY

tuuur August 25th, 2009, 08:32 AM I guess my Tryggvecaster counts too... the body made of three IKEA Tryggve (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10094630) shelf planks and finished with yacht laquer, neck is off a Squier '51.
Bridge pup is a GFS, neck an old Teisco goldfoil.

guitarbuilder August 25th, 2009, 08:41 AM PineNewbie,
Many people use Tru-oil. It is sold in gun shops and depts. Multiple coats produce a nice shine. Personally I've never used it, but search for it here on the TDPRI and you can see the results.
sekt88 August 25th, 2009, 09:21 AM Does this one count:
Taipan Tone Telepaul one piece Pine Body, waiting for the pickguardian pickguard
Allparts OBESE neck
Gotoh open back tuners
Lollar CC pups
Taipantone Hardware
20 coats Black French Polish by yours truly!
200 year old Pine floor,,,still attached to the house:-(
eyerish August 25th, 2009, 09:15 PM pics are gone because I am sending the pine body back because the bridge rout was of center.
eyerish August 25th, 2009, 09:20 PM Oh and because Arlo doesn't want it I nominate Olaf for Pinecaster president

eyerish August 25th, 2009, 11:37 PM well i got took maybe. I got the pine body today. i put some cell pictures up a few posts ago. I tried it with the neck and bridge and the bridge rout is off. you can see it in the pic i put up with the neck on it. i didn't see it until i tried to string it. The high e and b strings are out in the air. I wrote the seller i hope he makes good. I REALLY wanted this to work as its just what i wantede an esquire type without the neck hole like my dad is having made in ash by someone. I wanted in pine like leos first ones but NOOOO i had to get the off kilter piney special LoL. well wish me luck I guess i will have to find a body maker to make me one. the problem is they always charge more then i got to spend LoL.
eyerish August 26th, 2009, 01:04 AM Now I have to find another pine body. The seller just emailed me that I can return it and he will refund my bid plus original shipping. I am out the amount I have to pay to send it back ,but better then being out the whole thing. So this is good sorta. Now who makes pine bodies inexpensively? I paid 108 with shipping on this one so I am looking for something in that range. with the same layout. just the bridge rout and string through holes. I would also like the control rout and the neck mount and bridge mount holes. basically like the one I am sending back but with the rout lined up correctly. LoL.

Gosh! that i could use some of... (did that fresh stuff smell nice, did it?) would'nt mind the old stuff either.
I discovered where all the old pine in the Netherlands is.
I can recover a lot of it, only it did not go into construction as it does in the U.S.
Arlo, you take care now when in Amsterdam, don't get AMSTERDAMNED...
And don't walk out of the Hardrock sh*tfaced into the canal either! LOL

jefsut August 27th, 2009, 09:34 PM Hey, I know it's an old thread, but I'm doing a similar project and was just wondering it you treated the bare pine body with anything before the stain?
That's a beautiful guitar ... Hope mine comes out half as good.
- Jeff
olaftheholy August 28th, 2009, 03:46 AM No, typically Pine does not need grainfilling, but it won't hurt if you do.
There can be knots though, i used Rustins clear woodstopping on my pine body.
I also used Rustins Yellow Pine Dye and Rustins shellac sealer as finish.
Dye the body with the non grainraising dye (whatever colour you prefer and they can be mixedfrom rustins on a cloth, wait till dry.
Apply the shellac with a roller, wait till dry and sand back with 320 grit glasspaper.
Apply more coats until satisfaction, sand back with320 and last Polish with a Beeswax with lye
That's how the butterscotchy finish on my guitar came about.
good luck

edgemarc August 31st, 2009, 06:04 PM Ok I'm in with this just found today (hopefully this an acceptable entry at this early stage). Torrey pine from San Diego like Torrey Pines golf course. Quote from Wikipedia "The Torrey pine is the rarest pine in the United States. The wild population is restricted to about 4000 trees growing in a narrow strip along the California coast in San Diego. It is currently being tested as a plantation tree for forestry use in Australia, New Zealand and Kenya." There's enough for two ea. 2pc body's. Following Tdowns Volume Calculation http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home-depot/161035-body-blank-weight.html the body's will weigh about 5.68 lbs, seam heavy whats an average Pinecaster body weigh?
Dababy August 31st, 2009, 06:28 PM Here's mine:
http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt311/dababyguitar/0023.jpg
http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt311/dababyguitar/0053.jpg
Body: 2 piece I bought off of ebay.
Neck: 2 piece I bought off of ebay and cut the headstock shape out, also put a V on the back.
Tuners: cheap ones from GFS
P/G: cheap one from GFS
Pickups: GFS Alnico Fatbody neck and bridge - LOVE EM! The bridge is great for rock n' roll and the neck sounds more like a bluesy strat neck.
Bridge: made it myself, top loader milled out of a solid chunk of brass - adds a ton of sustain because of the mass. It's bolted to the body with threaded inserts rather than screwed into the wood, as is the neck.
Knobs: Made those as well - took a brass punch and cut it up and drilled it. I "rolled" it through the bandsaw rather than pushing it through so they have a clamshell effect on them.
This is my #1 despite the neck being too thin. Next purchase is a fatback or something like that. Resonates beautifully and is even loud unplugged! When this one gets too beat up, I'll just slap the components on another pine body.
Dababy August 31st, 2009, 06:30 PM whats an average Pinecaster body weigh?
I'm not sure, but mine's actually kind of heavy - it's comparable to an ash body that I have. I'm guessing heavy side of 6 pounds or maybe even 7.
Ron Garson August 31st, 2009, 06:55 PM Here's my Pinecaster.

Glendale 1.5" body, Allparts fat neck, Glendale bridge and saddles and knobs and jack-cup and neck-plate. Don Mare pups.
It's a one piece body, and the coloured stripe down the middle is "heartwood!"
olaftheholy September 1st, 2009, 06:13 AM whats an average Pinecaster body weigh?
Welcome to the club Marc!
there's no average i guess, my Yellow piney is heavier then the featherweight Swamp Ash i have.
The body is an exact 4lb 7oz (2.1 Kilo's or thereabouts)
The swampash bodyblank is 4lb 8oz and needs trimming to size still...
so...
But since i have the pine one, the "other" five tele's are sitting jobless, gathering dust...
guitarbuilder September 1st, 2009, 07:14 AM I'd say most of the one piece bodies I've made the last few years have weighed in the low 4 lbs. Not too many in the 3 lb range. I'd guess that is probably because the trees are large and grew more slowly.
mr newhaven September 1st, 2009, 11:49 AM here is my Ron Kirn Barn Buster (sorry if you get tired of looking at these pics...i post them everywhere...but wait...how is it possible to get tired of these?)
it isnt!
100+ year old Loblolly Pine from reclaimed lumber...(with a stripe of 250+ year old American Chestnut on the back)

Phew thats a relief I thought it may be a little heavy. It's lookin like 4.75lbs @ 1 1/2" thick.

yea these Torrey pines grow pretty slow probably cuz their protected so they take their time.
