string tree blues

hi everybody.
in my new b-bender hipshot tele, I took off the string tree, in order to reduce the friction points, and mounted a set of spretzel locking tuners that-being made with different heights-allowed me to go without the tree.
the guitar and the b-bender works a charm, BUT : if I play with a little more strenght on my high E, it often "escapes" the from the nut.

the simple way seems to be to put back in place the string tree, but if I could keep the B-string free from it, I would be happy.

I was wondering if a single string -with an asymmetrical tension-could cause trouble to the string tree's stability.

I use roller string trees with my b-bender. Got them from Stew-Mac. Cheap and work fine.

I always have to use string trees or I pop my E and B out of the nut. Just use a Teflon gel on the tree. I use Big Bends Nut Sauce.

i use standard tree`s and fill up underside with graphite dust and glue till its hard then cut a slot for string to sit in and replace. from head on looks standard but underneath works just like a graphite string tree. first did it for a mate who plays for shadows and those fans want a strat to look like a strat!

on my main tele with a couple I got from Stewart/MacDonald which were made entirely of graphite. They work like a charm with no de-tuning problems and never have to be lubricated with anything......JH in Va.

You should be able to grind or cut off the B side of a sting tree. It mounts solidly to the headstock, I don't think it would be a problem. There's not a whole lot of tension under a string tree.

put the tree back on, get a #2 pencil (or as Will uses... Big Bends Nut Sauce) and apply it on the string under the tree.

I keep a pencil in my case. It's graphite at it's cheapest... and I rub the pencil on the string at the tree, and on the nut (ALL STRINGS) and on the bridge peices.

If you do a lot of below the nut bends as well, the pencil trick will take care of any string sticking on the low end as well. And everybody has a pencil layin around right?

I should market that! B bender pencils...lol

I would like to add, stainless steel strings last a hell of a lot longer when you use a bender... nuff said.

BTW Will, you and Tim Wallis are my heroes!
