Black on black , a hommage to Leo...

I never do any building for myself.
Sure there's the red Esquier (wich is long gone) and the SX to blackguard conversion but, lately all i did was building telecaster for other people...
There's this telecaster that's been lurkin'in the back of my mind for some time now, a guitar with all the right parts a collaboration if you will from top quality materials.
It is a black on black telecaster and it's supposed to be a tribute to Leo Fender who as we all know had "costcutting" on the top of his list.
So, i've been gathering parts in boxes for some time now, we have the callaham 5 hole bakelite pickguard, fender aftermarket dome knobs, an allparts controlplate, oak switch,cts 250K pots, a vintage PIO cap, cloth pushback wire, a Fender aftermarket vintage bridge, callaham stainless slotted screws replacement kit, callaham stainless retainer button, a quartersawn maple V neck 50 spec,Fender aftermarket tuners, theres even silver Fender spaghetti decals and a Leo Fender portrait decal.
Pro quality grainfiller,sealer, black paint and highgloss clear.
Wetsand and buffing stuff i have plenty of
Callaham stainless saddles and a set of vintage toneriders on the way, should be here this week...
I've been scowering the net for bargains on these parts forever and have sat up for many a night to get it all together ordering from all over the world.
Got a very good deal on the body, a 4 pounds even, two piece swamp-ash thing.
The neck is a perfect fit...
Work starts this afternoon.

Did the grainfiller and sanding sealer this afternoon and dhot it black...
drying/hardening time now, tommorow deal with possible issues such as minor specs of dust, sand them out and shoot clearcoat.
I'm shooting poly on this guitar since it's a black on black the lacquer doesn't matter that much to me, plus it works/dry's faster then a speeding bullet. ;O)

Pictures tomorrow, first up another anxious hour on the EBAY, 60'th anni avri '52 ;O)

Humidity is slim to none here for the next couple of day's...
Perfect conditions for shooting all kinds of toxic spray's
Do a little sanding on some small booboos and start on the clear today...

Well, my first paintjob that went horribly wrong.
Never seen a thing like it....
White 'powder' seemed to be coming out of the spraycan along with the clear and mix in with the coat...
Strange, the back has bubbles like it was fizzing for a while..
It's not dry yet,front is touchable but altough the powderstuff is gone, it sort of looks well, flat black...
See what happens when wetsanded...

Look at the paintstick, theres a big layer of that white powder on it that came out of the cans, cans because it came out of both cans i used...

Temperature here is 35C. humidity well below 40% :confused:

Back to the drawingtable i guess...
When it's dry, flatten it out,shoot it black again,see what happens...

That 'white powder' looks like humidity to me. Was it over 50% humidity when you sprayed?
That should sand right off pretty easily.

Well, the gauge (wich is stuck, i found that out now) said 40%
So, it must have been well over 60% is my feeling, thunderstorms are rolling in right now.
When it's hardened out tomorrow i'll sand it back till flat.
Then do black again, wait for good humidity conditions and go for the clear.

With the grainfiller, sandingsealer,black coat,glosscoat and now a black coat and again a gloss coat this thing is filling out pretty good! :O)
