But, unlike delays and echoes, they modulate, oscillate, and do all sorts of crazy things to the signal. For a good and free intro to effects try and find a copy of Bosses Effects guide. IT includes a CD that demos the various effects and theirs plenty of good suggestions as to how to get different tonal types. The basic effects categories: distortion - includes overdrive, distortion, fuzz. Modulation, described above-phase flange chorus,etc-creates pulsating or whirling sounds Ambience effects-reverb and delay (echo) EQ - various tone control effects - wah pedals could fit here. Thats not a complete list but shoudl give a good idea. TheGoodTexan May 5th, 2004, 11:03 AM Modulation effects would include: ... tremolo ... Essentially, they're time-based effects... Not to start an arguement, but tremolo is not modulation. There is no time based alteration there, just various types of volume swells up and down. The only reason I included it really was because there are two tremolo simulations in Line 6's modulation modeller units (One Fender, and one Vox). And I believe Boss had their tremolo pedal lumped in with the modulation category. That said GoodTexan, you won't get an argument from me about trem not being modulation. I was really hesitant to include it in the first place. Come to think of it, where DOES tremolo fit in as far as effects categories? It's kind of a white elephant. It does modulate the amplitude of a signal, so I guess that's why you find them included with modulation effects. Ahhhh, who cares really? Tremolo's just COOL! Later...
