Nobleman ODR 1

Just finished my "Nobleman ODR Uno":

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e323/RomanSonnleitner/nobleman.jpg

It's a clone of the Nobels ODR1, but with True Bypass and a few tweaks - the kit is sold here: http://www.toneclonepedals.com/ (I just got the PCB from them, as I already had a lot of the parts).
Sounds GREAT; ever so slightly Tubescreamer-ish, but with less mid-hump, less compression, and more bass; I can dial in sounds that come really close to my Barber LTD, but the ODR has quite a bit more gain on tap (more than I use); it has a unique tone pot that doesn't cut treble, but adjusts the mids and presence, you can go from smooth and tight to loose and raw.
The Nobels ODR1 is a favorite of country players, and I can see why, with its open, twang-enhancing character.

The second part of the pedal is a "negative booster", a simple switchable volume pot; I have been looking high and low for a booster that does NOT overdrive by itself, does NOT change the tone, and especially does NOT add/enhance treble (eg. by upping the input impedance) - none of the circuits (Orman min-booster, SHO, Microamp, Stratoblaster, LPB,...) worked for me (the Zoom PowerDrive DID work, but it is too large for the small board I'm putting together for my Americana duo - the Zoom lives on the larger board for my country rock band).
With that "negative boost", I simply set a volume cut for rhythm playing with the pot, and then hit the switch to get the vol. pot out of the circuit for solos, works perfectly for my applications.

In case you're wondering why the pedal has TWO power supply jacks: I simply wired a second one in parallel, so that I wouldn't need a daisy chain cable for poiwering a second pedal from the same wall-wart...

PS: Calligraphy is not one of my stronger talents, as you can see...

A little follow-up: just swapped the two RC4558P opamps I had originally been using for two TL072 types - and the change in tone is bigger than expected: with the original ones it sounds a bit tighter an more aggressive, more "pedal-like", with the TL072 the tone is looser, rounder, fuller, more amp-like - those are gonna stay in there...

I wouldnt say that, the booster sounds like what alot of people are searching for,an un-colored boost. I like the subtle high end enhancment of a micro amp or compressor though.
If this was a two channel overdrive like a fulltone gt-500 it would be more versatile to me. then you could hit both channels with a booster or comp infront of it for 5 shades of overdive/distortion and boost.

actually,Roman, do you have the PDF from their websight? I cant seem to open it. I need to see the build instructions/parts list to see if it is something i could takle by just ordering the circuit board.

Hi, the build instructions are very detailed, with lots of step-by-step pictures, etc.
Shoot me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send them to you!

So what is this pedal suppose to be a clone of?
Also what are they talking about "the Nashville Overdrive?"
Never heard that one before.

Thanks,
RJ

Is there a way to clone the Nobels ODR-S?

I have a schematic for both. Let me compare the two pedals and I'll shoot you one. I have compared alot of pedals with the ODR-S. Beats all of them on the website. Go here and check it out yourself: http://www.oldtonezone.com/distortionoverdrive-pedal-shootout/the-od-pedal-comparinator/, and I'll back to ya when I get the schematics sorted out.

Thats a cool websight! I thought the DOD fx-102 gave the nobels a run for the money, maybe just needed to back the treble down a tad on the DOD.The fulltone Trower was really close to me.
The Bad Monkey and Boss OS-2 didnt sound bad either, but the Nobels was the king of clarity to my ears.

Thanks for the post on our nobleman ODR-UNO. Hope you enjoy our clone of it.
