A Yamaha AA5, and a Vox DA5 http://cachepe.zzounds.com/media/quality,85/brand,zzounds/fit,400by400/AA5amp-8402c620426ca98f4a152e9085ab4af9.jpghttp://cachepe.zzounds.com/media/quality,85/brand,zzounds/fit,400by400/DA5_front-892f0d20699861549f0bb53485d9a471.jpg Radspin August 4th, 2009, 11:39 PM The Vox DA-5. I know a lot has been said about it here, but I'll second it--it's a GREAT little amplifier. Wild Rice Chris August 6th, 2009, 01:33 PM I have a Roland MicroCube: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/wildricechris/00%20inv/IMG_0568.jpg And this homemade beast: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/wildricechris/00%20inv/IMG_0632.jpg gaddis August 6th, 2009, 01:52 PM My Fender Amp Can has been very handy for the last ten years or so. I think it's a great little amp that doesn't get talked about much. Of course the distortion sux, but someday I'll replace it with something else. fivenote August 6th, 2009, 02:18 PM Pignose and a Smokey. Both great for practice or taking on trips. rangercaster August 6th, 2009, 02:35 PM i forgot i have a Smokey too ... and a Pignose 7-100 and my current fave, a Crate Profiler 5 from the $49.99 GC blowout (i just couldn't resist at that price) http://lh6.ggpht.com/_YeJzt63xtWM/SmT-VfnQe2I/AAAAAAAAAxw/HVLCBe96qpg/crate-guitar-amp.jpg LGOberean August 6th, 2009, 03:05 PM Well, what I have in the way of battery powered amps takes this discussion on a bit of a different direction, but I submit for your consideration the Vox amPlug (mine’s the AC30 model). I was surprised at how nice it sounded, and it’s a fun way to practice at night. http://www.voxamps.com/images/amplug/th_ac30_slant.jpg Then I have my Crates: TX30 (the yellow “Taxi”) and TX50 (the black “Limo”). Both are powered by an internal 12V rechargeable battery, but you can also operate them using the included 120V charger/adapter. Here’s a shot of both of them set up in my living room, the Taxi on the left and the Limo on the stand on the right in the photo. http://www.tdpri.com/telephoto/data/500/medium/My_Gear_-_Living_Room_shot.jpg Here’s a closer shot of the Crate TX30 (the “Taxi”). http://www.tdpri.com/telephoto/data/500/medium/Closeup_of_Mini-me_My_Little_Yellow_Taxi.jpg The Taxi has 30W RMS, 8" woofer and a piezo tweeter. Vocal and instrument channels. I have used it most all of its life with my acoustic/electrics (particularly that Crafter in the pic). I don’t have a close up of the Crate TX50 (the “Limo”), but here is a stock photo from the Crate amps site. http://www.crateamps.com/img/prod/TX50DB_main.jpg The Limo has 50W RMS, 10" woofer and a piezo tweeter. Vocal and instrument channels. I play both my acoustic/electrics and my Teles through this one. Biz Prof August 6th, 2009, 03:34 PM I ordered a tweed mini-twin last year. Not great, but not bad either....particularly when I plug it into an external 12" Celestion! PMan August 6th, 2009, 07:47 PM Guitar Center has the Vox DA20 down to $150 these days. I was hoping the DA5 would also get a drop, but it looks to be holding steady at $140. I guess if they're selling, I wouldn't drop the price, either. Edit: And actually, what can anyone tell me about the cleans on the DA series? Do they have the "Vox sound"? Is it comparable to, say, the Pathfinder? gaddis August 22nd, 2009, 11:15 AM Well, what I have in the way of battery powered amps takes this discussion on a bit of a different direction, but I submit for your consideration the Vox amPlug (mine’s the AC30 model). I was surprised at how nice it sounded, and it’s a fun way to practice at night. http://www.voxamps.com/images/amplug/th_ac30_slant.jpg ..... Well, thanks to your post I gave the AC30 Amplug a try. I have mixed feelings about it but overall I'm glad I got it as it really fills a need. I find that when I set it for a clean sound, I can't quite get enough volume out of it, especially when I have my computer's output plugged in to the aux input. This could possibly be a function of the headphones you use with it. The distortion/overdrive sounds really sweet. Great for Sweet Home Alabama. Last night I tried it with my Tele for the first time and it worked really well with it. Dirty Steve August 23rd, 2009, 02:34 AM Just mic it to the PA, can play any gig anywhere! http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q246/biliousprudence/MD20.jpg Warm Gums August 23rd, 2009, 11:04 AM I have a Crate Taxi ( the black PA/acoustic model) good for that, dosen't sound 1/2 bad with a pedal infront for electric. I also have a Vox AC-1 whic looks cool... and a Sound Tech which is a part of the Washburn group. It's in a wooden box, with a 3" speaker has a tuner, a line in & extention speaker jack & is about 4" square, dosen't sound bad for something you can throw in a gig bag. I also had a PV Companion at one time, heavy little bugger took 6 or 8 D batteries. jwj4856 August 23rd, 2009, 10:36 PM I have a Roland Micro-Cube and love it. chubbsdarcy August 23rd, 2009, 11:00 PM some of you folks have mentioned i already, but the VOX DA5 really is one cool little amp...Ive only ever used one setting because thats all Ive ever needed, but shes got a lotta different sounds... zinkyzenith August 24th, 2009, 03:04 AM I'll play. Here's my Heineken amp that runs off a 9v. The guy I bought it from has to put the "Amp In A Can" sticker over the Heineken logo for copyright reasons (like you can't tell what it is without that...) Sorry about the fugly camera pic...nothin' else handy 30666 Scott S August 24th, 2009, 06:53 PM *runs off to build a battery pack to power his 5F2A* Overseer August 25th, 2009, 07:35 AM count me in.. i have a danelectro honeytone 9v amp.. :) Sollophonic August 25th, 2009, 08:49 AM I started a similar thread a while back more towards micro amps, but heres my current stock of battery powered amps. Marshall http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k7/andys_01/MarshallMiniAmp.jpg Has one good tone IMO, but is fun as a noise maker and for distorted slide playing. Dean Markley http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k7/andys_01/DeanMarkleyMiniAmp.jpg This amp is a much nicer sounding battery amp to my ears. Got it off ebay for £7 and I have shoehorned a small Celestion speaker scavenged from an old 60s radio into it. Big improvement in volume and sound. Finally my Pink Vox DA5 which to be honest spends much of its time running off the mains. I think this amp is a little belter, theres some really nice amp tones on there, although some of the effects and the distortions are a bit cheesy. Blues 1 and Blues 3 settings with a bit of reverb, sound pretty nice to me. I also like the way you can open and close the back of the cabinet on this amp, to change the speaker tone a bit. I also line it out into my Valve Jnr and Cab sometimes as well http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k7/andys_01/PinkVoxDA5.jpg Another ebay bargain (because of the colour!!!) SlideGuy123 August 25th, 2009, 11:32 AM Love the sound of my DA5 through the speaker (believe it or not). Having a problem with the headphone out, though -- everything sounds either overdriven or fizzy, depending on which 'phones I use. Has anyone else run into this? Overseer August 25th, 2009, 11:46 AM found a pic of my danelectro honeytone http://www.rollinondubs.net/overseer/guitar/Img_0116s.jpg adifferentbreed August 31st, 2009, 11:33 PM Vox Da 5 and a Pignose 7-100, both of 'em are great, not just on the house, but on the boat, the back porch, at the beach, anywhere...........gotta love 'em. Wild Rice Chris September 14th, 2009, 12:05 PM Here's a video of my MicroCube: 9gdR7HGvLSc avagadro October 13th, 2009, 04:33 PM does anyone remember the Dwarf? I've still got one and I always thought they had some great output and tone. very nice all wood cab too.
